Investigators met with representatives of Casper banks Tuesday, as the number of new credit card fraud reports continued to slow, police said.

The meeting - involving the FBI, Casper police and representatives from banks and credit unions - comes as local authorities continue to investigate roughly 200 credit card fraud cases reported in the past few weeks. The fraudulent charges originated in a number of states, including Georgia, Alabama and California.

Tuesday's meeting gave investigators an opportunity to discuss the situation with multiple Casper banking institutions at one time, said Casper police Sgt. Steve Schulz.

Local banks have cooperated with police during the investigation, Schulz added.

The pace of the new reports has slowed since last week, when investigators received between 20 and 30 reports daily. Police Tuesday morning said they received only five or six new reports.

Police recommend residents check their credit and debit card statements and report suspicious charges. Unusual charges can be reported to the Casper Police Department at (307) 235-8278.
