The Casper City Council will decide tonight whether to give KONE Elevators another three months to complete the parking garage elevator project.

The $269,000 project should have been completed Oct. 2, but flooding from the July 3 storms filled an elevator shaft and work was delayed while insurance adjusters investigated the damage.

KONE was unable to work on the water-damaged elevator and was forced to leave the other elevator running, so the project was delayed.

The contractor had to leave one of the two elevators operational in order to maintain compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act.

The city council will likely give KONE until the end of the year to complete the project.

The project includes the installation new controls, new car door operators and hoist equipment, push button stations and emergency firefighter panels. The elevator cars and entrances will also receive new stainless steel panels, lighting, ceilings and flooring.

The change to the contract doesn't affect the price.
