Register for youth hoops tourney

The Casper Recreation Division, in conjunction with the Community Recreation Foundation and the Casper Travel and Tourism Council, will host the Casper Youth Basketball Tournament on March 21 and 22 at several locations throughout Casper, according to a release.

The deadline to register a team is March 6. The price to register is $125 per team. The tournament is open to boys and girls in grades 4 to 8. The tournament typically features more than 120 teams from Wyoming, Montana, South Dakota, Nebraska and Colorado.

Teams are guaranteed at least two games, and most will play three or more games.

Proceeds generated from the tournament directly benefit the Community Recreation Foundation and provide scholarships and recreational programs for youth and seniors in Casper.

Special Olympics Wyo elects chairmen

The Special Olympics Wyoming board of directors elected two new officers at its Dec. 5 meeting, according to a release.

Lora Huston of Casper was elected to a two-year term as board chairwoman, and Bruce Brown, also of Casper, was elected vice chairman. Diane Cox and Debbie Huber were re-elected as treasurer and secretary, respectively.

Special Olympics Wyoming is a not-for-profit organization providing year-round sports training and competition to children and adults with intellectual disabilities.

NCHS plans Winter Bridges

Natrona County High School will hold Winter Bridges, the program that allows students to recover lost credits from the first semester, from Jan. 5 to 9, according to a release.

Students must be recommended by a teacher. Students will have assigned work waiting for them and will be allowed time to complete the projects over several days. Students may arrive during any of the scheduled days and times on a drop-in basis.

Sessions are planned for 8 a.m. to noon on Jan. 5, Jan. 6 and Jan. 8; and from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Jan. 7 and Jan. 9.

No transportation will be provided, and the cafeteria will be closed.

Nic exhibits near end

The Nicolaysen Art Museum and Discovery Center's current exhibitions will close on Jan. 4, according to a release.

The exhibits include: "Reviewing the West" by Casper native Bill Shepherd; three solo exhibitions by artists who hail from across the country; and more than two dozen works by Jackson Hole artist Conrad Schwiering.

The museum will be closed Dec. 24-28 and Jan. 1 for Christmas and New Year's. It will open at noon on Dec. 30 and 31 and resume normal hours on Jan. 2.

CY plans Career Day

CY Junior High School students returning on Jan. 12 from winter break will be given an opportunity to think about their futures and to learn more about careers, according to a release.

More than 50 volunteers representing a wide variety of careers from across the Casper community will share their perspectives and provide information about education or training necessary for particular careers, job responsibilities, salary ranges, and future job demand.

Casper native and former Major League Baseball pitcher Tom Browning will participate in a school assembly at 10:20 a.m., and school will be dismissed at 11:20 a.m.

Parents and students are strongly encouraged to attend two sessions at noon and 12:30 p.m. to learn about the Hathaway Scholarship Program, district graduation requirements, and local post-secondary educational opportunities.

First semester report cards will also be distributed to parents between 11:30 and 11:55 a.m., or immediately following the second presentation.
