Wreck hospitalizes Casper man
A Casper man was injured in a two-vehicle accident on Interstate 25 on Tuesday, the Colorado Highway Patrol said.
A patrol spokesman said Gary Lee Pierce, 44, of Casper was driving southbound on icy I-25 in Weld County, Colo., when his car was struck by a northbound sport-utility vehicle that had spun out of control and rolled into the southbound lane.
The driver of the SUV, William David Vest, 24, of Fort Collins, Colo., was declared dead at the scene. Pierce was taken to United Medical Center in Cheyenne, where he was initially listed in critical condition by a hospital spokesman Wednesday morning but upgraded to good condition by evening.
Couple dies Valentine's week
A 70-year-old man was found dead in his car after the vehicle crossed a barbed wire fence and rolled across a field before striking a tree at low speed Tuesday, according to a report from the Natrona County Sheriff's Office.
Harold Wolfe's death followed that of his wife Jeannine Wolfe by less than 24 hours. The causes of both deaths are still under investigation but are thought to be cardiac in nature, according to Natrona County Chief Deputy Coroner Gary Hazen
In the case of Harold Wolfe, Hazen said, it appears the death "truly is one of these cases of a broken heart."
Hazen said he interviewed Wolfe about his wife's death on Valentine's Day morning.
Wolfe explained that he and his wife had been drinking tea when she stopped breathing. He told Hazen how he had tried to resuscitate her, and he "spoke about it being Valentine's Day" and about how he and his wife had been married more than 50 years.
Jeannine Wolfe was 67, Hazen said.
Family members could not be reached for comment Wednesday afternoon.
Propane leak causes cabin fire
A fire that destroyed a cabin on Casper Mountain on Monday night was caused by a propane leak, according to Natrona County Fire Protection District spokesman Rick Young.
The fire was started by a leaking propane tank or line and was strictly accidental, Young added.
The destroyed cabin was located on Van Winkle Drive about half a mile from the main road.
Fire crews form three local departments responded to the blaze, which started around 7 p.m.
The cabin was destroyed before firefighters could reach it.
