Flapjacks, free throws, flea market

Eat an early breakfast of pancakes, shop for treasures at a gigantic flea market and then see the best in high school basketball - all in Casper and all today.

Start the day off at the 55th annual Kiwanis Pancake Festival, serving from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Roberts Commons Cafeteria on the Casper College campus. All proceeds go back into the community to support numerous Kiwanis projects.

The menu features all the pancakes you can eat, along with portions of eggs, sausage, juice and coffee. Admission at the door is $6, with seniors and young children $4. Basketball teams are welcome.

Another rite of spring, the annual Super Flea is today from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., in the Industrial Building at the Fairgrounds, just off CY Ave., and Wyoming Blvd.

Sponsored by the Antique and Collector's Club, 57 dealers are scheduled to sell their wares. Admission is $2 for anyone over 12.

High school basketball takes the spotlight on today's sports calendar, with Class 4-A West regional action, featuring both Kelly Walsh and Natrona, at the NCHS Gym.

Class 1-A and 2-A schools complete their state championship today, with consolation round action at both Casper College and the Events Center, beginning at 9 a.m. The four championship games run consecutively at the Events Center, starting with 1-A Boys at 3:30 p.m., followed after 30-minute breaks by 1-A Girls, 2-A Girls and 2-A Boys.

If participation is more your style, Hogadon Ski Area hosts its popular learn to ski or snowboard weekend both today and Sunday. The package includes a one-hour group lesson, rental gear for one day and a full-day lift ticket. Learn to ski is $30; learn to snowboard is $40. Reservations are required by calling 235-8499.

The 200 Club of Casper bowling club holds a members-only team tournament at Sunrise Lanes at 1 p.m. This members' only tournament is a 4-person team event. Entry forms are available at any bowling house. For more information, call Judi at 234-4930.{M3The Casper League of Women Voters{M3 holds its annual meeting at noon at the Hilton Garden Inn, 1150 N. Poplar St. The meeting will feature a luncheon, business meeting, and a talk given by the Wyoming League lobbyist in the Legislature, Marguerite Herman. The public is invited.

The featured speaker at this meeting will be Marguerite Herman, who has been covering the Wyoming Legislature as a journalist and/or lobbyist for 28 years.

Murdoch's Ranch & Home Supply, 370 Miracle St., in the former Linton's location, will be giving out 4H discount cards to all regional 4H members during 4H family day today.

4H members are urged to take identification in the form of a newsletter addressed to them, or an ID card. To make it easier for 4H families, extension offices will provide cashiers with lists of all 4H members so they can easily be verified and given their discount cards.

In addition to discount cards, 4H'ers will have the chance to get a free 4H T-shirt ( while supplies last) courtesy of Murdoch's, and anyone who brings in a worn-out cap will receive a free Murdoch's cap.

Natrona County High School's Theatre Department presents Rodger's and Hammerstein's award-winning "South Pacific" at 7 p.m. tonight in the John F. Welsh Auditorium. Tickets may be purchased at the door. Adult ticket prices are $6 and prices for students and faculty are $3.

Stage III Community Theatre presents Lewis Carroll: Six Impossible Things Before Breakfast, by Marilyn Ann Hetzel and Margaret Lee Potts. This family-friendly adaptation of the Alice in Wonderland stories is suitable for all ages. The production is directed by Ellen Graham of Seattle, the Artist in Residence for Stage III's 2008-09 Guest Director program.

Performances are tonight and March 13, 14, 19, 20 and 21 at 7:30 p.m. and March 15 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $12 for adults, $8 for seniors and students, available in advance at Metro Coffee Company, Grant Street Grocery, and the Cadillac Cowgirl, and at the door beginning one hour before each performance. Season Ticket holders and those coming from out of town to attend the show may make telephone reservations by calling 234-0946. On Sunday, the Casper Branch of the NAACP will meet at 6 p.m., in the Railroad Room in the Parkway Plaza Hotel in Casper. On tap for this month's meeting will be reports of the Legal Redress Committee, the Political Action Committee, and the Audit Committee. Ideas for increasing membership will also be discussed.
