A Natrona County man who told police he tried to kill himself by crashing his truck into a sport utility vehicle has been arrested.
Michael Anthony Tate, 41, was arrested on suspicion of aggravated assault and driving under the influence, according to a Casper police affidavit.
Tate told a Casper police officer that he intentionally ran into a Chevrolet Suburban that was waiting at a stoplight at McKinley and East 15th streets Thursday evening, the affidavit said. Tate explained that, prior to the crash, he had decided to kill himself after his girlfriend told him she was ending their relationship.
Tate, who was treated and released from Wyoming Medical Center, said he hadn't been concerned about hurting others and he deserved whatever punishment he was given, the affidavit said.
Police found several broken beer bottles in Tate's 1970s-model Ford pickup and he told police that he had drunk four beers and a shot of liquor.
The Suburban's driver, Elizabeth Scott, told police she was stopped at a red light when she saw a faded, gray pickup speeding in the wrong lane toward her, the affidavit said. She complained of neck and back pain after the crash and was treated at Wyoming Medical Center.
The impact of the crash caused the Suburban to hit a Toyota Celica that was behind it. The Celica, in turn, struck the front of a Mercury Cougar.
