Committee looks at energy, development
The Joint Minerals, Business and Economic Development Committee will meet at 8 a.m. on Nov. 19 and 20 at the Game & Fish Building, 3030 Energy Lane, in Casper, according to a release.
The purpose of the meeting is to continue discussions on the interim topics of clean coal technologies, energy resource, energy transportation, landfill risk assessment and monitoring, economic development programs, work force housing, work force development, pipeline safety and the banking commission.
An agenda for the meeting will be available at a later date at legisweb.state.wy.us.

Library workshop offers Web tips
A workshop - "Treasure or Trash: An introduction to Web site evaluation" - will be offered at 10 a.m. on Wednesday in the Natrona County Public Library's Tech center, according to a release.
Participants will learn how to evaluate Web sites and will be useful for those using the Internet for research, school projects, medical information and more.

NCHS group raises funds
Natrona County High School's HEART group is raising funds to support the educational portion of HEART's program, according to a release.
HEART, the Health Education Africa Resource Team, is a charitable group based in Kenya, Africa. The NC group's goal is to raise money to send African children in Kenya to school, especially children with AIDS. A walk fundraiser recently raised more than $350, and other fundraisers are planned.
The NC student council recently collected canned goods totaling between 1,500 and 2,000 pounds for Joshua's Storehouse.
The NC cheerleaders led a fundraising event against Kelly Walsh High School - and tied into the Oil Bowl - to raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. NC's group raised $2,300 compared to KW's $1,300 to claim the MDA Football Trophy at the Oil Bowl.
College hosts big band dinner
Tickets are available for Casper College's fourth annual "Strike up the Band" big band dinner dance scheduled for Saturday in the Grand Ballroom at the Parkway Plaza, according to a release.
"Strike up the Band" will really have the feeling of dinner/dance clubs from the 1930s, '40s and '50s, according to Bob Kleinschmidt, Casper College woodwind instructor and director of the Casper College Jazz Ensemble.
A buffet dinner will begin at 6 p.m., and a cash bar will also be available. Dancing will begin at 7 p.m. Tickets are $35 each or $50 per couple. For those wishing to dance only, tickets are $15 per person.

Governor plans visit to Powder River
Gov. Dave Freudenthal will visit Powder River School at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, according to a release.
Last year, the students wrote a letter to the governor asking him to visit their "wonderful rural school," said Powder River teacher Julia Woodward.
Woodward said Freudenthal was unable to visit last year, but will discuss the executive branch of government with the students on Tuesday.
NGA features game night
A "No Girls Allowed" game night featuring the online game Runescape, chess and a Guitar Hero contest, will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday at the Natrona County Public Library, according to a release.
The library's "No Girls Allowed" programs offer an opportunity for boys and their dads, grandpas and other male role models to spend quality time together at the library.

Students get up to code with course
Casper College will offer a course in electrical code on Saturday and Sunday, according to a release.
Students taking the class will learn the changes and revisions to the 2008 National Electrical Code. In addition, the course will fulfill the requirements for the state's 16 hours continuing education needed to renew a journeyman's or master's electrical license, according to instructor Neil Hibschweiler.
The fee for the course is $275, which includes the required textbook.

PETA will offer 'tofurky'
Two women - dressed "as sexy and scantily clad 'pilgrims,'" according to a release - from the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals will be in downtown Casper on Nov. 20 to hand out free vegetarian turkey - or tofurky.
