This weekend's activities range from craft fairs and flea markets to learning about the worldwide abundance of orphans and how local folks may want to get involved.
As provided to the Star-Tribune, here is a summary of weekend activity:
The Tower Treasure Sale (one man's junk is another man's treasure) is from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. upstairs at Strong Tower Family Church, located in the Triangle Plaza, 4801 E. Second, across from Home Depot. To donate items or for more information, call Cherie or Don Evans at 235-4843.
The Platte River Parkway Trust Board hosts an Open House at the newly renovated Tate Pumphouse Trail Center, 1775 W. First St., due west of Amoco Park, from 9 a.m. to noon. Drop in and see the new community gathering spot.
The Kelly Walsh SOS committee hosts a fundraiser to help KW SOS raise funds for needy students in the Kelly Walsh Cafeteria from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The Casper Antique & Collector's Club hosts the Super Flea Market from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the Fairgrounds Industrial Building. Admission is $2 for those over the age of 12.
The Highland Park Community Craft Fair runs from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., at Highland Park Community Church, 411 S. Walsh Dr. The entrance fee is $1 and organizers request no strollers. The cafe serves meals and snacks from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Dance workshops will be held at the Senior Citizens Center, with professional instructor and choreographer Jo Thompson Szymanski as the teacher. From 9 a.m. to noon, a seniors line dance workshop will be taught free to Center members. For couples, high beginner West Coast Swing, Salsa, and Night Club two-step will be taught from 10 a.m. to 3:15 pm. Couples fee is $55 per couple for all day. After the day of workshops, there will be a free dance at the Downtown Grill and Venue for the students to practice all their new moves from 7 to 11 p.m.
Shorter days and colder nights can be a recipe for depression in many people. Learn to kick the "Winter Blues" the natural way at the Natrona County Public Library at 10:30 a.m. Naturopath Janet DeVoogd teaches you how to use herbs, nutrition and natural therapies to prevent the blues and boost your mood despite the icy slush and howling winds outside.
Gertrude "Milly" Emmons celebrates her 90th birthday with family and friends from 2 to 4 p.m., at her residence. Acquaintances are welcome to stop in and say hello.
The Natrona County Public Library will hold a classical guitar concert featuring musician Peter Fletcher at 2 p.m. in the library's Crawford room.
The Casper Ducks Unlimited Hunter's Party is hosted by Casper Mountain Motorsports from 2 to 5 p.m. For tickets, call Paul at 258-2773, Lucy at 265-8177 or Joy at 259-1711.
Singers are invited to participate in rehearsals for the annual Festival Choir & Orchestra concert, which will take place on Dec. 20. The rehearsals will be held at Our Saviour's, on Saturdays from 4-6 p.m., beginning today and continuing through December 19, except for no rehearsal on Thanksgiving weekend. For information, call director Carolyn Deuel at 265-1564.
The fifth annual tribute to Chris LeDoux PRCA Rodeo and Concert is today at the Arena at 7 p.m.
Tickets are available at Murdoch's and at the door. After the rodeo, a concert will be held with Nashville recording artist Dustin Evans and the Good Times Band with Ned LeDoux on drums.
The Glenrock Senior Center hosts a unique fund-raiser tonight, with an interactive murder mystery dinner theater, "Doom at the Lucky Loon Saloon," presented by Moonstone Creative Resources. A complete chili dinner will be served for $10. Show begins at 6 p.m. Call the center to reserve tickets at 436-9442.
The Casper Children's Theatre presents its Kinderdrama class in the production Tales of China today at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. on the second floor of the Commissary Mall, 138 South Kimball, Ste 6. Admission is $3 for youth and $5 for adults. Tickets may be purchased at the door or in advance from Papa Murphy's Pizza or the Theatre.
Stage III Community Theatre invites audiences to match wits with the great detective as they present "Sherlock's Veiled Secret," at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $12 for adults and $8 for seniors and students, available in advance at Grant Street Grocery, Metro Coffee Company, and the Cadillac Cowgirl, and at the door beginning one hour before each performance.
The Marine Corps Birthday Ball will be held at the American Legion starting at 6 p.m. All celebrants of the Marine Birthday are invited to call 333-1052 for reservations.
The Casper Senior Center and The SwingSounds Dance Band holds a dance from 7 to 10 p.m. Admission is $4 per person.
On Sunday, the public is welcome at a series of events that explores the 143 million orphans worldwide.
At 3 p.m., Restoration Church, 956 N. Poplar, will host a streaming webcast from Nashville featuring music and speakers.
At 6 p.m., College Heights Baptist Church, 600 W. 21st St., hosts a question and answer session with Casper families who have adopted children from overseas.
The Casper Chamber Music Society will present soprano Lisa Rich at 4 p.m., at the Shepherd of the Hills Presbyterian Church, 4300 S Poplar. Tickets are $8 for adults, $6 for seniors, and $2 for students and may be purchased at the door.
Tickets for the Broadway in Casper production of the family classic musical, "Annie," go on sale at 10 a.m. Sunday at the box office of the Casper Events Center. The performance is Jan. 5 at 7:30 p.m. There is a $10 discount on all tickets for children 18 and under.
The Casper Branch of the NAACP's next meeting will start at 6 p.m. on Sunday and will take place at the Casper United Church of Christ, 15th and Melrose.
Community Education dance classes start in the Roberts Commons Ballroom at Casper College on Sunday. Beginning line dance classes are 5:15 to 6:15 p.m., beginning swing is 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Register at the college, 268-2110. All ages are welcome.
