College board plans meeting

The Casper College District Board of Trustees will hold its December board meeting at 7 p.m. on Tuesday in the Strausner Student Center, Room 217, according to a release.

Prior to the meeting, the board will hold its work session and finance meeting from 4 to 6 p.m. in the Strausner Student Center, Room 207.

All meeting minutes and schedules for the board are available at www.caspercollege.edu/administration.

Both meetings are open to the public.

Library offers Medicare seminar

Seniors can get one-on-one help with the enrollment process and learn more about the changes taking place in 2009 for Medicare Part D from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday at the Natrona County Public Library, according to a release.

Tom Reinhart and volunteers from Wyoming Senior Citizens Inc. will help seniors compare their current plan with the changes for 2009, give general information about Medicare, and assist in the open enrollment process in the Crawford Room.

Resource Center hosts family workshop

The Family Resource Center will host the workshop "Love and Limits" from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday at Frontier Middle School, according to a release.

College string students schedule recital

Violin, viola and cello students at Casper College will perform in a recital at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, according to a release.

"A wide-range of students will be represented and will include Natrona County Board of Cooperative Education Services, music majors and nonmusic majors," said one of the instructors, Jennifer Cowell.

The recital is free and open to the public and will take place in Durham Hall, located in the college's Aley Fine Arts Center.

Evansville teacher receives presidential award

Amy Radden, fifth-grade teacher at Evansville Elementary School, is the state finalist for the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching for kindergarten through sixth grade, according to a release.

"[Amy] believes every child in her classroom can learn math," said Donna Mathern, principal at Evansville. "She creates an atmosphere where every child's intelligence and math ability are honored. Because of this, her students are amazingly successful."

Rec schedules holiday camp

The Casper Recreation Center will host a camp for kids during the holiday break, according to a release.

Camp hours are from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday with the exception of Dec. 22 (12:30 to 5:30 p.m.), Dec. 24 (7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.) and Dec. 31 (7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.). Camps will not be held on Dec. 25 or Jan. 1.

Elementary children will participate in sports, arts and crafts, games, movies, ice skating, outdoor activities (weather permitting), swimming and more. Children need to bring a sack lunch and morning snack, warm clothes for skating or sledding and a swimsuit and towel on Fridays. Registration is $167 for the three weeks.

City auctions baskets for homeless students

City employees are auctioning gift baskets to benefit the area's homeless students, according to a release.

The 14 baskets are valued up to $500 and include Events Center tickets, toys, games, hotel room vouchers, and restaurant vouchers.

The online auction runs through 5 p.m. on Dec. 19; bids can be made at www.casperwy.gov.

Proceeds will be donated to the Casper Rotary Foundation to support local homeless children.

College offers utility locator classes

Casper College will offer several utility locator classes for the spring semester, according to a release.

Classroom and hybrid courses are available, but the labs must be completed in person. Each class will be limited to 10 students.

Students who successfully complete the course will receive a certificate of certification from Staking University, a nationally recognized underground utility locator certification and training center.
