Tour homes, walk for CARES, find those sports cards

Tour nine new homes in the Casper area, walk a mile or five kilometers for a good cause or find that elusive sports card for your collection.

The second annual Parade of Homes features homes from Evansville to Paradise Valley, all open for touring from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tickets are $25, available at each home. Find addresses in an ad in today's paper.

Complete with hidden treasure, "The Pirates of the Caribbean," is the theme for this year's Casper Walk for Wyoming CARES beginning at 8:30 a.m., at Shepherd of the Hills Presbyterian Church, 4600 S. Poplar.

Festivities include games, music, team photos, a scrumptious brunch and prizes. Two route choices will be offered, a 1-mile route and a 5k route, complete with a rest stop in the beautiful Garden Creek area of Casper.

Since incorporation in 2001, Wyoming CARES has provided assistance to 694 infants, children, youth, adults and senior citizens in Casper and 66 communities in Wyoming. All funds raised stay in Wyoming for Wyoming residents.

Individual walkers, family members and corporate teams are invited to participate.

A sports card and collectibles show will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., at Behind The Glass, Sunrise Shopping Center, 4230 S. Poplar St. There will be tables filled with cards and collectibles from all sports from various vendors.

Drawings for prizes will be held throughout the show and you must be present to win. Buyers, sellers, traders, all welcome.

St. Vincent de Paul Thrift Store, 301 E. "H" St., is having an After Labor Day Sale from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., with everything in the store half off. Proceeds from store sales benefit several area nonprofits.

The library is forming a Tween Advisory Board to assist in children's programming at the library this year. The board will allow students in grades 4-6 to contribute ideas for upcoming library programs and book discussions tailored to their age group. A kickoff meeting will be held at noon, with a pizza lunch provided. Stop by the Children's department or call 577-READ ext 122 for more information.

Casper Amateur Hockey League hosts 2008-2009 Open Registration and Annual Hockey Equipment Garage Sale from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Casper Ice Arena. For more information, call Ann Coons, 262-5371.

The Tamah Egyptians will have a fall luncheon at 11:30 a.m. at Poor Boys Steak House. Please make your reservation with Mary Walford at 237-8191 or Ann Comeaux at 235-1994. Wash away the dirt and grime of the dog days of summer at Popish Veterinary Clinic's Annual Dog Wash from 1-4 in the east side parking lot, at 3155 CY Ave. Bring your hot dog in for a bit of pampering while you enjoy a hot dog on us. Micro-chipping and I.D. tags will be available for purchase, and all donations will go to Paws to Help, an organization which offers abused and abandoned pets relief through medical care, foster care opportunities and adoption.

The Casper Senior Center, 1831 E. 4th St., invites you to dance from 7-10 p.m. to music provided by Casper's 5 piece band, "Swing Sounds." Admission is $4 per person.
