Forum includes Senate, House candidates

Three forums featuring candidates for both U.S. Senate and the U.S. House races in Wyoming will be held on Sunday at the Gertrude Krampert Theatre at Casper College.

Sen. John Barrasso and Nick Carter will answer questions at 1 p.m., followed by Sen. Mike Enzi and Chris Rothfuss at 2:30 p.m. The House forum - featuring Cynthia Lummis, Gary Trauner and Dave Herbert - will begin at 4 p.m.

Each forum is scheduled to last one hour. The forums will be moderated by Casper Star-Tribune editor Chad Baldwin and KCWY TV's Walter Allen and Andrew Schenkel.

The event is free and open to the public.

District administrator wins state award

Dr. Tammie Bertelson, director of special education for the Natrona County School District, recently was named the 2008 Special Education Administrator of the Year by the Wyoming Association of Special Education Administrators, according to a release from the district.

"I'm fortunate to work in a district that allows me to be involved at the state level, and because of the special education staff, Natrona County has a strong reputation for strong special ed services," Bertelson said.

Winter Weather Awareness Day is Wednesday

National Weather Service offices serving Wyoming have designated Wednesday 2008 Wyoming Winter Weather Awareness Day, according to a release. A public information statement will be issued that morning with information about winter weather preparedness and safety.

Also that day, the statewide Emergency Alert System will be tested to ensure communication systems are properly operating throughout Wyoming. The test includes broadcast media partners and statewide All Hazards NOAA Weather Radio network. A test Blizzard Warning will be issued at 10 a.m. with an all-clear statement at 10:30 a.m.

College needs judges for tourney

Casper College's Pioneer Trails Forensics Tournament needs judges for one or more rounds during the upcoming tournament Oct. 10 and 11, according to a release.

Judging times are available both day and evening. No experience is necessary, and Casper College will provide individuals necessary training.

Judging categories include parliamentary debate, persuasion, prose, duet, speech to entertain, extemporaneous, impromptu, poetry, informative, communication analysis, program oral interpretation and dramatic interpretation.

Tournament headquarters will be located in the Doornbos Student Lounge located in the Casper College Administration Building.

Library hosts information meetings

Natrona County residents are invited to attend public meetings in October to learn more about the Natrona County Public Library's new facility project and ask questions, according to a release.

Meetings will be held at the library at 3 p.m. Saturday, 7 p.m. on Oct. 14, and 7 p.m. on Oct. Comprehensive information about the new library project will be presented, and citizens will have the opportunity to ask questions and clarify their understanding of the project.

Library hosts fall book sale

The Friends of the Library will hold its Fall Book Sale on Oct. 25 and 26 at the Natrona County Public Library, 307 E. Second St, according to a release. Hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Oct. 25 and noon to 5 p.m. on Oct. 26.

The popular weekend sale will include a large amount of slightly used items at discounted prices, including hardcover books, paperbacks, children's books, craft and holiday books, DVDs, videos, games, music, book sets and magazines.

No electronic devices used for checking book prices will be allowed, including hand-held PDAs.

Proceeds from the event will go toward new collections and programs for the library.

Rec hosts 'Play All Day'

The Casper Recreation Division will host "Play All Day" on Saturday at the Casper Recreation Center, Family Aquatic Center, and Ice Arena, according to a release.

For just $10 per person, patrons will have use of the entire Recreation Complex. Patrons will also receive a free hot dog from the Ice Arena with purchase of the "Play All Day" pass.

The racquetball courts, game room, and fitness/weight rooms will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.; the gym for volleyball from 5 to 8 p.m.; open swim with waterslides and Lazy River from 1 to 6 p.m.; family swim from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.; and public ice skating from 1 to 3 p.m.
