Parkway board hires firm for project

The Platte River Parkway Trust Board agreed at a recent meeting to hire Pope Construction as construction manager for expansion and renovation of the Tate Pumphouse, on the banks of the North Platte River in Casper.

The Tate Pumphouse is a brick structure once used as a pumping station to send water to Midwest. The pumphouse was given to the parkway trust by BP in 2007.

An architectural firm, Design Studio of Casper, will design and oversee the work to turn the historic structure into a community gathering place with indoor public restrooms, parkway trail system office, public plaza, bike/kayak vendor, and a riverside restaurant with outside dining, according to a press release from the board.

Work on the expansion and renovation of the Tate Pumphouse is scheduled to begin this fall.

The Tate Pumphouse is centrally located along the Platte River Parkway trail system at the Casper Whitewater Park adjacent to the Newell B. Sargent Foundation Bridge linking the Platte River Commons to the parkway.

Cancer Society bus will visit Casper

The "Fight Back Express," an American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network tour bus, will be in Casper today at 7 p.m. at the Crossroads Adventure Park.

The national bus tour began and continues as a way of bringing governmental attention to funding needed for cancer research.

Cancer advocates and members of the public are encouraged to visit the park and sign the bus as a showing of a united battle against the disease.
