Xeriscape expert to speak at library

The North Platte Group of the Sierra Club will host a public presentation on xeriscape gardening with nationally renowned landscape architect Jim Knopf.

The presentation will be held at the Natrona County Library, 307 E. 2nd St in Casper at 7 p.m. Tuesday. It is free and open to the public.

"Xeriscaping is all good news. There is no downside," said Knopf. "It saves water. It typically costs far less both to build, and to maintain than 'traditional' landscapes."

Knopf has taught landscape architecture at the University of Colorado and University of Georgia.

He has written numerous books on the subject including "The Xeriscape Flower Gardener," a waterwise guide for the Rocky Mountain region.

Knopf has designed many public gardens in the Denver metropolitan area. He served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Kenya.

Man sent to prison in drug case

A 23-year old man was sentenced to serve between 8 and 12 years in prison Friday on his conviction in March of four drug offenses.

Robert Daniel Dettloff was arrested last year on suspicion of possessing methamphetamine with the intent to sell it, along with other drug possession charges.
