Walk for good causes, as well as your own fitness; enjoy a stage comedy or symphony performance. Those are all options this weekend.

Friends of Dana Cardinal are having a 5K Walk/Run for her. She is a teacher at North Casper Elementary who was severely injured in an auto accident in March and has recently returned from Craig Hospital. The walk/run will be at Three Crowns Golf Course. Children under 12 are free. Registration is at 7:30 a.m. at the Collins Street entrance. A donation of $10 per walker or runner is requested. Checks can be made out to Donations for Dana.

The Casper Community Walk to benefit Wyoming CARES starts with registration at 7:30 a.m., at the Shepherd of the Hills Presbyterian Church, 4600 S. Poplar. There are two routes, one mile and 5K.

The 10th Annual One-Pitch Softball Tournament features 20 teams from Casper, Gillette, Worland, Powell, Riverton, and Cody. All games will take place at the Crossroads Softball Complex, 1101 N. Poplar, beginning at 8 a.m. The championship game is scheduled at 8:30 p.m.

The Casper Recreation Center, Aquatic Center, and Ice Arena will be hosting an open house from 9 a.m. to noon. Offerings include free use of the Recreation Center from 9 a.m. to noon, free swimming from 11:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., and free ice skating from 1 to 3 p.m. (skate rental fees apply).

The past, present and future of Wyoming's juvenile justice system will be examined for the Democratic Women's Forum at the first fall meeting at the Petroleum Club luncheon. Presenting the program are Judge Gary Hartman, currently senior advisor to Gov. Freudenthal, and Beth Evans, Ph.D, who recently completed a two-year contract as Coordinator of the Juvenile Justice Project for the Wyoming County Commissioners Association. The Democratic Women's Forum meets monthly at the Petroleum Club for noon luncheons and programs of current political interest. There are no dues, and the no-host buffets are open to anyone interested, regardless of gender.

Evansville Baptist Church hosts a back to school carnival from noon to 4 p.m., with basketball, ring toss, horseshoes, fish pond booth, Bible verse booth, cake walk and snack bar. Tickets are 10 cents each. All proceeds go to paint the church. The church is located at 459 Third St., between the fire department and post office. Naturopath Janet DeVoogd teaches families how to have a positive start to the school year and stay healthy at a free workshop at the Natrona County Public Library, beginning at 10:30 a.m. Wyoming Symphony family pass holders may attend dress rehearsal today from 2 to 4:30 p.m., in the John F. Welsh Auditorium. The time has been changed from the normal dress rehearsal time. The symphony begins its 60th season on Sunday at 4 p.m., with a performance by guest artist baritone Stephen Bryant celebrating an afternoon of passion, romance, drama and majesty in the John F. Welsh Auditorium.

There is an organizational meeting for anyone interested in helping with Mayhem at the Mall, Poverty Resistance's 10th installment of Halloween haunted house fun, at 2 p.m. today at the event site, the mall parking lot in the old Wine Rack building. The public is welcome at a plaque dedication to celebrate the contribution of Dean and Iola Cosner to the deaf and interpreting communities at 5 p.m., at the Outreach Library, formerly the School for the Deaf, 539 S. Payne in Casper.

There will be a pie social and dance at Deer Creek Community Hall, with music by Jim Trantham and Swing Sounds from 6 to 10 p.m. Sloppy joes and hot dogs will be served. Pie will be available by the slice, by the whole or at auction if there are enough. Price is $5 per person.

The VFW Post and Auxiliaries 9439 hosts Big Dave's Karaoke from 7 p.m. to midnight at 1800 Bryan Stock Trail. Members and their guests are welcome.

Stage III Community Theatre opens its 2009-10 season with "Over the River and Through the Woods," a comedy suitable for all ages, at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $12 for adults and $8 for seniors and students.

On Sunday, Central Wyoming Hospice & Transitions is hosting an Open House & Housewarming Party at 319 S. Wilson from 1 to 3 p.m., on Sunday. Housewarming gifts are welcome, but not necessary. CWHTP is registered with TargetLists. You can find the hospice list by logging on to Target.com or visiting the Target store. The list is registered under the first name "Central WY" and the last name "Hospice."

The Casper Branch of the NAACP meets Sunday at 6 p.m., at the Casper United Church of Christ located at the corner of 15th and Melrose. This month's meeting will feature a visit by the state conference president, who supervises the Montana, Wyoming, and Colorado Region.
