WMC holds first Organ Donation Collaborative
The Wyoming Medical Center invites health care providers to share ideas and stories about organ donation at a conference from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. today at the Parkway Plaza Hotel and Convention Center.
It is the only hospital in Wyoming involved in a national collaborative to develop strategies to improve organ donation, according to a news release.
Dr. Brian Wieder, a neurosurgeon from the Wyoming Neuroscience and Spine Institute at the hospital, will speak. Melissa Berg, a 15-year-old from Casper who has had two liver transplants, was also scheduled to speak, but because of her condition it was unknown if she would be able to share her story.
The medical center is one of the top five hospitals in Wyoming and Colorado in organ and tissue recovery, according to the press release.
For more information on the collaborative or organ donation, contact Andy Hamilton, the medical center's organ donation team coordinator, at (307) 577-4310.
Harp recital features student and instructors
Casper College sophomore music performance-instrumental major Cynthia Bower will give a recital on the harp at 7 p.m. Friday, May 4 in Durham Hall, in the Aley Fine Arts Center.
Bower, the student of Casper College harp instructor Connie Wallace, will perform several solo pieces and also some ensemble pieces. For the ensemble pieces Bower will be joined by Casper College instructors Jianjun He and Wallace as well as Marianne Mabey and Gary Pehrson.
"Classical and Celtic music will be the mainstay of the program selections," said Deanna Dyer, academic program support specialist, in a news release. In addition, listeners will also be treated to American folk songs and spirituals.
The recital is free and open to all, and a reception will follow.
Learn about Outreach education
Representatives of the University of Wyoming Outreach School and Casper College will present information about statewide educational opportunities in an open forum at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 8 in the Doornbos Student Lounge in the Casper College Administration Building.
"This will be a forum where potential students can learn about the higher education possibilities that are open to them, whether at the associate's, bachelor's, or master's degree level," said Brent Pickett, director and associate dean of the UW Outreach School.
They'll describe programs offered through the UW Outreach School, how distance education works, financial aid opportunities, and general course delivery methods. Admission forms, informational documents, transcript evaluations and academic advising will be available.
Presenters will include Pickett; Scott Seville, associate dean of the UW Outreach School and professor of zoology; Dianne Davis, coordinator of undergraduate advising; and Rod Thompson, assistant professor of technical education. Casper College will be represented by Kyla Foltz, admissions representative.
