Meet Teddy, catch the derby, learn about bats

There's plenty to do this holiday weekend for the whole family. Enjoy the summer sun and take your kids swimming or to the carnival. If you're looking for something more educational, mosey on over to Fort Caspar to meet President Roosevelt or check out bats at the Science Zone. If your feeling uptight, find a sitter for the night and enjoy some metal on metal destruction at the demolition derby. Whatever your style, Casper's got what you need for a fabulous fourth of July weekend.

The Casper Family Aquatic Center will be holding a special half price Family Swim will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Fee is $2.50 per person. All regular facility rules apply; children ages 8 and under must be accompanied by an adult in the water. For more information call 235-8383.

Fort Caspar Museum will have a special guest at 1:30 and 4 p.m. Bring the entire family to see President Theodore Roosevelt when he visits the Museum in the Multi-Use Room. Gib Young portrays the President. Learn of Roosevelt's visits to the West and of the Roosevelt family. Free with admission (adults are $3, youth 13-18 are $2, and children 12 and under are free). The Central Wyoming Fair and Rodeo continues this weekend with Crabtree amusements from 3 p.m. to midnight today and tomorrow. Armbands are $26. For more information, visit www.centralwyomingfair.com.

The Central Wyoming Demolition Derby starts at 4 p.m. Cost is $7 children under 12; $10 adults; and free for children under 5. Seats are first come first serve, and there is no gate admission.

The Science Zone is showing its new exhibit, "Masters of the Night: The True Story of Bats." The exhibition dispels popular misconceptions about bats, describes their ecological importance and gives visitors an appreciation of the true wonders of the bat world. The Science Zone is open Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is $4 adults, $3 children; children age 3 and under admitted free. For more information, call 473-ZONE.
