So I spent three hours the last couple of days serving up grub, about my favorite thing to do next to cookin' it.
This time, the cookin' was left to the experts at the Casper Events Center kitchens.
But Constant Readers know that my favorite meal guests are those who appreciate what they're eating.
And, wow, the more than 200 wrestlers, along with coaches, managers and cheerleaders certainly seemed to appreciate the early-morning breakfast served each day after weigh-ins at the state wrestling championships.
The menu was scrambled eggs, hash browns, sausage patties, biscuits and gravy, juice and milk.
I was in charge of the biscuits and gravy, slinging tongs in my right hand and a gravy ladle in my left. That, in itself, was worth the price of getting up so dang early.
During the rush time, we had 'em backed up in a U shape. I rarely got to even look at who I was serving. Nearly everyone wanted two biscuits and many politely asked if they could have gravy over their potatoes and sausage, as well as the biscuits.
The volunteer help was provided by the Proud to Host the Best Committee, which strives not only to secure state championships for Casper, but also to make guests feel welcome during their stay.
This is Week 1 of the tripleheader - beginning Thursday morning, Class 2A and 1A basketball teams will be in town and then on Wednesday, March 5, cheerleaders and dance teams from all classes will be here for the State Spirit Championships. And on Thursday, March 6, Class 4A and 3A basketball teams begin their three-day event.
At lunch the other day, hotel GM's were commenting that they are far busier this year than they've been in the past.
And one offered conference room floor space for a restaurant crew that a chain brings in to help with the weekend rush. She had beds for them on Thursday, but not Friday or Saturday, but she gladly offered her floor space - and they gladly accepted.
One would have to be a prairie dog to not notice all of the new hotel construction around town. When a singular hotel opens, its impact is barely noticed.
Perhaps with more opening at once, unsuspecting workers will be able to get a room without a reservation.
Speaking of hotels, we were thrilled to find a room in Sundance for our annual August excursion on the motorcycle.
So thrilled, in fact, that we're not gulping at the price times three nights plus tax, or the fact that payment in full is due before April 1.
We're thrilled we get to give our money to a Wyoming business - and one with a hot tub and continental breakfast as a bonus.
If you spent the weekend here, we hope you had a great time.
If you're coming in the next two weeks, we're happy to have you. And you bet, we are proud to host the best and their families and fans.
