With the first potential winter storm of the season, you may want to check before venturing to an outdoor activity. Here are events previously scheduled for this weekend in and around Casper.
The public is invited to a memorial service for Matthew Shepard at 6:15 p.m., on Sunday, the 10th anniversary of his death, at the First Congregationa/United Church of Christ, 15th and Melrose. The event is hosted by the Casper Chapter of Parents Family and Friends of Lesbians and Gays. Those attending will view a film from the Matthew Shepard Foundation, followed by a discussion of his life. The evening will end with a candlelight vigil.
The American Legion Auxiliary begins baking cookies today for those at the Veteran's Hospital in Sheridan and the State Veterans Home in Buffalo. Cookie baking takes place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the American Legion Home on Legion Lane.
Anyone wishing to donate fresh baked cookies or ingredients may take them to the Legion Home during baking hours or take them to the Legion after 2:30 p.m., any day and they will keep them for the bakers to use. For more information, call Dorothy Boam at 436-9319.
Murie Audubon Society invites you to observe ducks, geese and other water birds at its field trip to Soda Lake. Meet at 9 a.m., at the northwest corner of the parking lot at the Mike Lansing Field at Crossroads Park. The field trip will be led by knowledgable Audubon volunteers. All ages are welcome.
Brothers of the Third Wheel will hold its monthly coffee/ride at 10 a.m., at Casper's restaraunt at I-25 & Poplar St. BTW is an international social organiziation for trike enthusiasts open to anyone who is interested in trikes and triking. You do not have to own a trike to be a member, just have an interest in trikes. There will be more information available at the meeting. For more information, call Don "Dusty" Howie at 472-7316.
Sunrise Baptist Church, 3990 S. McKinley, invites families to a very special time with the Sinclair family. You will enjoy Larry singing and creating a beautiful fluorescent black ight chalk drawing as well as ventriloquist Freida and son "Willie Joe" The times for these fun-filled services will be today at 6 p.m. and Sunday morning at 10:30 a.m., after the 9:30 a.m. Sunday School in which there are classes for all ages. Hazel is retiring. Join friends at Mills VFW 10969, 4570 West Yellowstone from 2 to 5 p.m., today, and say thank you and good luck to Hazel Steffey, the long-time custodian. Have some hors d'oeuvres and chat with friends and neighbors.
Through Halloween, First Christian Church, 520 CY Ave., will host its huge Pumpkin Patch. All proceeds are used to support youth projects and organizations of the church. Extended hours on the weekends will be Saturdays 10-7 p.m. and Sundays noon-7 p.m.
In addition to pumpkins, there are mini pumpkins, gourds and corn stalks and delicious baked goods, a play area for children and a great area to take pictures. Take the whole family and your camera.
The Casper Humane Society (CHS) has scheduled its monthly pet photo opportunity from 1-3 p.m., with the theme, Costumed Critters. Pet owners are encouraged to dress up their pets in a favorite costume and come for a photo session! A $10 sitting fee is charged. For more information , call the Casper Humane Society at 265-5439.
Would you like to know more about the project to build a new library before voting in November? A meeting for community members will be held at the library today at 3 p.m. Comprehensive information about the new library project will be presented, and citizens will have the opportunity to ask questions and clarify their understanding of the project.

{M3Honorees have been chosen for the second annual {M3Casper Coming Out Day {M3ceremony set for this evening at the Three Crowns Golf Club, from 7 to 9 p.m. A light buffet will be served and a cash bar will be available. The public is welcome, and there is no admission. .
Three awards will be given to leaders of the Wyoming Gay Lesbian Transgender and Bisexual Community.
Casper resident Jason Marsden will receive a political leadership award; Laramie native Bob Hooker will receive a humanitarian award for his 18 years of working with people with AIDS; and Cheyenne resident Lauren Danley is being honored for her work with transgender individuals throughout the State.
Keynote speaker for the evening is Rev. Dee Lundberg, pastor of the First Congregational/United Church of Christ in Casper. The master of ceremonies is Jerry Clemens. For more information, contact Bob Warburton at 265-4414.
The VFW Post and Auxiliaries 9439 will be having Big Dave's Karaoke from 7 p.m. to midnight at 1800 Bryan Stock Trail.
Kheta Court,No. 59, Ladies Oriental Shrine, will host its annual Beans 'N' Jeans dinner/dance at the Casper Shrine Club, 39th and Coffman, open to the public with social hour at 5:30 p.m., and dinner served at 6:30 p.m. Dance to the music of Swing Sounds from 8 p.m., until your feet can't dance any longer. Tickets are $12 and available from any member of the Court or by calling 237-2178 or 237-7463.
Casper Youth for Christ, Inc. hosts its 3rd annual Reaching the Every fundraising banquet at 6:30 p.m. at the Casper Events Center, honoring Carl Wolosin, executive director of the Central Wyoming Rescue Mission. The guest speaker is Ryan Dobson, founder of KOR Ministries and the son of Dr. James Dobson.

Vern and Rita Davis entertain at a dance at the Senior Center from 7 to 10 p.m., for dancing or just listening to good music. Admission is $4 per person. No smoking, no alcohol but free punch and coffee are served.
On Sunday, the annual Casper College Autumn Choral Concert at 2 p.m., at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, will feature a wide variety of musical selections, including one in which Eric Unruh will accompany the Casper College Women s Choir in a new choral work he composed specifically for the inaugural Women s Choir Festival held last weekend.
Other groups to perform include the Casper College Men s Choir, The Casper College Contemporary Singers and the Casper College Collegiate Chorale. The concert is open to all, and a free-will offering will be accepted at the door.
