Casper senator seeks re-election
Sen. Charles Scott, R-Casper, announced Monday he would seek re-election to the Wyoming State Senate for District 30 in Natrona County.
If reelected, his top priorities would be to improve the state's education systems and find solutions to health care problems, Scott said in a press release.
He said he wants to improve funding for all levels of education and further opportunities for public health and preventative medicine.
Scott has been in the Wyoming Legislature since 1978 when he was elected as a state representative. Four years later he became a state senator.
Scott said his current term was his most successful. In 2005, he sponsored legislation that created the full Hathaway scholarship program and improved the original concept. In 2007, he sponsored the Cancer Control Act, which included the colorectal cancer screening program and other preventative programs.
Scott works as a rancher on the family Two Bar Ranch.
Book sale nets highest profit ever
The eight-day sale of used books, magazines, movies and music resulted in gross sales of more than $48,000, according to a release from The Friends of the Library. The amount breaks all records since the book sale started in 1971, beating last year's record by approximately $5,000.
The first day's sales topped $18,900, almost $500 over last year's first day, despite the decision to ban electronic pricing devices often used by book dealers. The dealers who did attend this year were very cooperative and local patrons congratulated the book sale organizers for maintaining a friendly environment for everyone who attended the sale, according to the release.
Proceeds go directly to the Natrona County Public Library to purchase new books, videos, audio books and supplement other needed improvements.
The Friends are looking for one or two people to dedicate a few hours a week to organize the children's section for future book sales. Contact Donna Mullen at the Friends of the Library, 235-0234, if interested.
Magazines and other book sale leftovers are being given away for free for a limited time in the Friends Room on the lower level of the library. Patrons can stop by from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. through April 18.
