Even Start holds grand reopening
The community is invited to attend the grand reopening of Casper Even Start at 4:30 p.m. on Oct. 8, according to a media release.
The celebration begins with guest speaker Dr. Joel Dvorak, superintendent of Natrona County School District. There will be refreshments and a tour of the facility following the presentation.
Casper Even Start is located in the Lifesteps Campus, 1514 E. 12th St., Building E.

NCSD talks about Maslow Project
Natrona County School District will hold "Recreating the Maslow Project in Natrona," according to a media release.
The program will be held from 9 to 10 a.m. on Thursday in the East Room at the Central Services Facility, 970 N. Glenn Rd. Agenda topics include impact of the work, organization and time line, Q-and-A, and a list of people who contribute their talents.
The Maslow Project, out of Medford, Ore., is a nationally recognized intervention and educational assistance program for homeless and runaway students, combining efforts of several community agencies. The project could be replicated in other districts across the U.S. - including in Natrona County.

NCSD Board holds work session
The Natrona County School District Board of Trustees has scheduled a work session from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Tuesday, according to a media release.
The meeting will be held at the Old Johnson Controls Building, 1044 Foster Road. The topic for discussion will be compilation and propitiation of topics for future board agendas.
The public is welcome to attend.
BLM burns slash piles on Muddy
The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Casper Field Office will be burning 100 acres of slash piles on Muddy Mountain this fall, according to a media release.
The slash piles and debris were created from forest health management activities in the Muddy Mountain Environmental Education Area. The goals of this project are to improve the health and age class diversity of aspen woodlands and lodgepole pine communities, as well as reduce hazardous fuel loadings adjacent to developed recreational sites.
Burning will begin today and may continue through June 1, 2010. All prescribed burn projects will be conducted in accordance with approved burn plans when favorable weather, smoke dispersal, and fuel conditions permit.

German exchange student needs home
A German exchange student needs a home for the school year, according to a media release.
Benedikt currently is enrolled in Natrona County High School. He is interested in archery and judo. He wants to be an engineer when he grows up.

WMC invites kids to PARTY
Wyoming Medical Center and the Casper Police Department have teamed up to encourage kids to Prevent Alcohol and Risk-related Trauma in Youth (PARTY), according to a media release.
PARTY is an interactive program designed to teach kids in grades nine through 11 to make better choices by showing the consequences of poor choices in risky behavior.
All programs are held on Saturdays from 8:45 a.m. to 4 p.m., and will be held this Saturday, Nov. 7, Jan. 23, March 13, May 22, June 26, Sept. 4, 2010, and Nov. 13, 2010.

Nic opens new exhibition
The Nicolaysen Art Museum and Discovery Center's next exhibition, "I Want Candy: The Sweet Stuff in American Art," will open Oct. 2, according to a media release.
The museum will celebrate the opening that day with a free "members-only" preview at 5 p.m., followed by a public reception at 6 p.m. featuring light hors d'oeuvres, delicious desserts and a cash bar. The reception is $10 for non-members.
"I Want Candy," which features 55 pieces, continues at the Nic through Jan. 3.

Coming Out Day festivities announced
Honorees have been chosen for the third annual Casper Coming Out Day ceremony, set for Oct. 11, according to a media release.
Awards will be given to three supporters of the Wyoming gay, lesbian, transgender and bisexual community.
Cheyenne resident Rev. Bob Spencer will receive a humanitarian award, Casper United Church of Christ will receive a community activism award, and Amanda Long of Casper will win a third award.
Keynote speaker will be Dan Neal, executive director of the Equality State Policy Center. Master of Ceremonies will be sportscaster Ernie Over.
