It's a question many pet owners forget to ask: Is my cat or dog a sex offender?
If pets aren't spayed and neutered, they very well may be.
Golfers in plaid skirts, khaki shorts and pastel polo shirts played to make sure fewer pets become felonious fornicators this year. The Central Wyoming Spay and Neuter Foundation held its fifth annual golf tournament fundraiser on Friday at Paradise Valley Country Club.
The foundation strives to prevent pet overpopulation by paying to have pets of low- to moderate-income families spayed or neutered, according to Sharon Darr, a former board member and current volunteer. CWSNF works with veterinarians in Casper, Glenrock and Douglas to make sure pets are safely and properly fixed.
"We have a huge pet overpopulation problem," Darr said. "About 110 [animals] per month are killed at Metro, and that's without the ones taken to the Humane Society."
The foundation helped to spay more than 400 animals last year.
The tournament is "our biggest fundraiser of the year," Darr said, adding that the foundation raises about $15,000 from the event. "Obviously, each year we hope it increases."
This year, 33 teams - about 130 golfers in all - gathered for the day of fun and fundraising.
Two to a cart, their equipment strapped to the back, they sped along trails at the country club, careful to keep their wheels off the greens.
Along the trail, just before the third hole, a Mardi Gras-themed station offered cool drinks and a hole-in-one prize.
"Show us your putter, we'll throw you some beads," joked Bonnie Trapkus, who, with husband Gary, manned the Hilltop National Bank-sponsored station.
At the first hole, golfer Wayne Cummings tried to keep up with his teammates.
"I'm not good, but I sure have a lot of fun," Cummings said.
"And these guys would all be at work if it weren't for this," he said, gesturing to his teammates. "We're mostly weekend golfers. We love the game."
