A Casper man pleaded not guilty Wednesday to charges he sexually abused a teenage girl who baby-sat his children.
Samuel Barrett, 28, is charged with second- and third-degree sexual abuse of a minor and could face up to 35 years in prison if convicted on both counts.
Barrett, who is free on $10,000 bond, entered the pleas in Natrona County District Court during a brief hearing. He appeared with his attorney, public defender Kerri Johnson, and spoke only to answer procedural questions from Judge David Park.
Police arrested Barrett on Sept. 8 after the girl alleged she had sexual contact with him at his home after he provided her with alcohol, according to an affidavit signed by a Casper police detective. The girl was unsure of the exact day, but said she baby-sat for Barrett's family over the summer.
The Star-Tribune doesn't identify the alleged victims of sex crimes.
In an interview with police, Barrett denied the girl's allegations, according to the affidavit. His trial is currently set for Jan. 5.
