A black and white sheepdog named Roz was missing after an accident, but her owner found her in time to head to the national Sheepdog Finals, which began Tuesday in Sturgis, S.D.

Amanda Milliken says she was traveling along Highway 220 when her fifth-wheel was clipped near Coal Mountain Road, eight miles southwest of Casper, around 11:30 a.m. on Monday.

Roz, wearing a brown collar, has a smooth coat and weighs less than 25 pounds.

"She looks kinda like a pit bull," Milliken said before Roz was found. "She's friendly enough to be with somebody, but she may be injured, may be scared."

Milliken, who resides in Meeker, Colo., said she left her trailer at the site of the accident, hoping the dog would return.

Roz did just that, and Milliken found her at the trailer around 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

"People talk about how dogs run in a big circle when they're in a panic," Milliken said. "It worked out for us this time."

Milliken said Roz had some cuts, was sore, tired and dehydrated, and her paws were badly worn down.

"She's a competitor," she said. "I don't know if she'll compete or not. It depends on how her paws heal up."

Roz, ranked 34th entering the six-day finals, was one of three dogs handled by Milliken for the Sturgis event. She is also scheduled to handle the No. 1 and No. 10 dogs.

Roz was scheduled to compete today.
