As the countdown to Christmas hits 20 days, the city of Casper hums with holiday events this weekend.
In addition to fun stuff, however, today from 10 a.m. to noon is the last official chance to get children-sized coats, boots and gloves free from the Kiwanis Club at the Salvation Army Hope Center, 441 S. Center.
And on Sunday, The VFW Post and Auxiliaries 9439 will have a Pearl Harbor Observance dinner at 1800 Bryan Stock Trail. No-host cocktails begin at 6 p.m., followed by dinner at 6:30 p.m., and the program at 7. For more information, please call the Post at 235-4867.
Casper's "A Bluegrass Christmas," a benefit concert for The Salvation Army, will be held at 8 p.m. tonight, at Metro Coffee Company, 241 S. David. The concert features Anastasia's Fault with Bosco Land.
There is a $3 cover charge, which will be donated by Anastasia's Fault. Metro Coffee Company will donate all of the evening's proceeds from the sales of drinks to The Salvation Army. Those who attend may also bring donations, canned and boxed food or toys, for Natrona County's needy families. Bosco Land has played with the best in bluegrass and was part of the original Stone Mountain Boys. For more information, call 265-8973.
The Sheridan High School Mariachi Band will perform from 6 to 7 p.m., in the commons area of Glenrock High School. The performance is free and open to the public.
Santasaurus will roam the Tate Geological Museum at Casper College during the museum's holiday open house from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The event, free and open to the public, will include refreshments, a dinosaur ornament workshop, a Christmas tree to decorate, and tours of the prep lab with recent finds available for viewing.
The Natrona County Public Library hosts a Gingerbread-house workshop at 1 p.m. today. Each family should bring a large cookie sheet in order to take your creations home.
The Casper Planetarium, 904 N. Poplar, hosts This Month's Sky at 7 p.m., and Black Holes at 8 p.m. All shows are $2.50 per person. For more information, call 577-0310.

The Worship Arts Ministry of Highland Park Community Church presents "The Glory of Christmas," a dramatic musical filled with familiar songs, dance, drama and worship tonight and Sunday at 7 p.m. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Free tickets are available at the Galilean at Eastridge Mall. The Casper College Department of Theater and Dance will present the Christmas musical "The Gifts of the Magi" on the McMurry Mainstage at 7:30 p.m. today and Dec. 9-13 at the Gertrude Krampert Theatre Complex. Tickets are $12 for adults and $10 for students 5 to 18. Tickets may be purchased at the box office one hour before each show.
A holiday open house with various vendors will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at 115 S. Elm, Wyoming Health Fairs Office. For more information, call Kirsti at 267-9196.
The Kelly Walsh cheerleaders are hosting a camp for boys and girls ages 3 to 12 from 9 a.m. to noon in the KWHS main gym. Registration is $20. Funds raised will be used to support cheer activities at KW.
The Casper Children's Theatre will hold registration for its winter theatre camp and spring classes from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m today and from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday at the Theatre in the Commissary Mall, 138 N. Kimball, Suite 6.
The winter theatre camp is open to children ages 8-12, and will focus on teaching theatre skills like movement, voice, dance, and acting. It will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily on Jan. 5-9. The spring season will feature an improvisation class for students 12 and older, "A Year with Frog and Toad" for students ages 8-12, and "FROGS!" for students ages 4-7. Natrona County Democratic Party holds its Christmas Party at the Isaac Walton Cabin, located behind Fort Caspar, starting at 5:30 p.m. today.
The public is invited and encouraged to attend. The party will supply a meat dish and table service. Take a side dish, salad, or dessert to share.

On Sunday, Alla Breve, the cross-generational women's chorus representing the upper division of the Casper Children's Chorale presents a holiday concert at 2 p.m. at Our Savior's Lutheran Church. There is no admission charge.
Also Sunday, VFW Post 9439 and Auxiliaries, 1800 Bryan Stock Trail, are hosting a breakfast for The Salvation Army from 8 to 11 a.m. All proceeds will go to The Salvation Army. Menu includes ham, bacon, link sausage, biscuits with sausage gravy, eggs, hash browns, pancakes, french toast sticks, danish, fruit and beverages. Cost is $6 for adults and $3 for children under 10.
