Garbage crews collect leaves

City garbage collection crews will pick up bags of leaves and grass clippings from residents living west of Durbin Street and Casper Mountain Road today, free of charge, according to a release from the city.

"We are doing this special collection to promote our composting area at the landfill," said Cindie Langston, solid waste division manager.

There is no limit on the number of bags of leaves and grass clippings. Bags should be placed at least three feet from trash containers if today is a regularly scheduled trash day for your neighborhood.

The city collected leaves on Monday for residents living east of Durbin Street and Casper Mountain Road.

There will be two more leaf collection days in late November.

People can drop off leaves, grass, tree branches and other yard waste free of charge every Monday through Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Langston said. The compost yard is located at the city's landfill on Metro Road.

Construction restricts east Second Street

Traffic on east Second Street next to the Wyoming Medical Center will be restricted all week as a storm drainage line is installed, according to a release from the city.

A three portion block of the street between McKinley and Conwell Streets will be partly and fully closed at times this week until the work is completed. Traffic may be detoured to east First Street.

The project is part of renovations to the hospital's parking garage.

Area businesses will remain open during the construction.

Skate park cleanup Wednesday

Skate park users can help keep their facilities in top form this week by picking up litter and broken glass.

The city has scheduled a cleanup of the skate park on Casper Mountain Road from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, according to a release from the city.

"It is very important for skaters to feel that they own the park, because as users of the park they do," said city parks manager David Hough.

The cleanup event is organized by the Youth Empowerment Council, the city parks division and Keep Casper Beautiful. A discussion at the end of the cleanup will address other needed repairs and improvements to the skate park.
