Power Plant celebrates No. 50
A community celebration will take place on Saturday in Glenrock to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Dave Johnston Power Plant and to mark the construction of the new wind projects.
"This event is an opportunity to show our appreciation for the support we've received from area residents as well as local and state leaders, for both the power plant and the wind projects," said Leslie Blythe, Rocky Mountain Power customer and community manager, in a release.
The event begins with a 5K Run/Walk beginning at 7 a.m., starting at the Glenrock South Recreation Complex and finishing at the Glenrock Town Park. A biscuits and gravy breakfast will be offered at the Glenrock Senior Center, located at 615 W. Deer, beginning at 8 a.m. Cost is $5 per person{M3.
The majority of event activities will occur throughout the day at the park adjacent to the power plant beginning at 11 a.m. Park activities will have a 1950s theme and will feature performances by 1950s-era celebrity impersonators and other entertainers, catered lunch and dinner, activities for children, pony rides, music and dancing, a melodrama, bingo, car show, plant memorabilia, vendor booths and more.
To accommodate the number of people expected to attend the event, bus service will be provided between the Glenrock High School parking lot, located at 225 Oregon Trail, and the Dave Johnston plant park, beginning at 10:30 a.m. Bus service will run every half-hour, with the final return trip scheduled for 8 p.m.
Bus tours to the Glenrock wind farm will also be offered, beginning at 8 a.m. and originating at the high school parking lot. Buses will leave for the wind farm every hour, ending at 5 p.m., with an expected round-trip lasting about 90 minutes.

College offers focused biz courses
A class to help students who are starting a small business and a class focusing on supervision of employees will be offered during the fall semester at Casper College.
"Small Business Practices" will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. every Monday.
"Instruction to Supervision" will be held from 11 a.m. to noon on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Swim lessons begin Sept. 8
The Casper Family Aquatic Center is taking registrations for swimming lessons through Sept. 11.
Classes are offered in the evenings and on Saturdays mornings, and there will be a class for every age.

Get on the air at the college
A new class for the fall semester will be offered at Casper College: "Radio Broadcasting Workshop."
The course, which begins Monday, will cover news, sports, music and commercial sales and will include lab work at a local station.

Roundup your Corvettes on Aug. 30
The fifth annual Corvette Roundup Show and Shine car show will be held from 9 a.m. to noon on Aug. 30 on the green at Fort Caspar. Registration for the car show is $20 and includes an event T-shirt. Proceeds from the show and its raffles will be donated to the Shiner's Casper patient travel fund.
The event is open to the public and will include awards for favorite Corvettes in different classes. There will be other events for participants on Saturday and on Sunday.
Registration for the entire event is scheduled from 4 to 8 p.m. on Aug. 29 at the Parkway Plaza Hotel and Convention Centre. Registration for the car show only can be done from 8 to 8:45 a.m. on Aug. 30 at Fort Caspar.

Course looks beyond family talk
A class - "Family Communication" - that is designed to introduce students to the diverse world of families and their communication patterns will be offered by the Casper College Communication Department for the fall semester.
Instructor Ebba Stedillie noted that anyone who would like to better understand how communication affects them, their family, their community and their relationships with each should take this class, which begins Monday.

A class that will be offered for the fall semester at Casper College will include curating a show at Fort Caspar Museum as part of "Museum Studies."
The course, which begins Monday, will cover the basic operations of a museum or gallery, and an overview of the history and changing role of the facilities in society.
