The renewal fee for the selective bar and grill liquor licenses will be discussed again tonight.

The Casper City Council may lower the renewal fee after the owners of DSASUMO, a local Asian Fusion restaurant in Casper, told the council it is too high.

Right now, an owner pays $10,500 every year to use one of the four licenses.

With a bar and grill license, the owner is able to mix drinks in front of customers. A restaurant license, which carries a $1,500 renewal fee, means the servers must mix the drinks in a different room and bring them out to patrons.

In the last city council work session, council members discussed every possibility from lowering the bar and grill fee to $1,500, meeting in the middle or using a graduated fee scale.

Other cities in Wyoming have taken different approaches.

Cheyenne, Cody, Evanston, Gillette and Sheridan all charge $1,500 upon renewal, and all but Cheyenne charge $1,500 for the initial fee, as well. Casper and Cheyenne both require a $10,500 initial fee.

Rock Springs, on the other hand, charges the maximum amount for the first two years and then reduced amounts until the fifth year, which is $2,200.

In order to change the amount, the council will need to approve the change three times. Tonight will be the first of the three.

The council will also hold two public hearings on other liquor licenses. The first will be to transfer the retail liquor license from the Parkway Plaza to a downtown office.

The second will be to give a resort liquor license to the new owners of the Parkway Plaza, Amidee Wyoming, LLC, a Texas-based real estate company.
