City manager receives management award
Casper City Manager Tom Forslund will receive the Award for Career Development in Memory of L. P. Cookingham International City/County Management Association at the ICMA conference on Sept. 21 in Richmond, Va., according to a release from the city.
The award recognizes an outstanding city manager who has made a significant contribution to the development of new talent in professional local government management. Two other managers will receive the award this year.
Forslund has been Casper's top manager since 1988 and a member of ICMA for the past 31 years.
College offers PowerPoint class
Casper College will offer two-day continuing education class on Microsoft PowerPoint 2007, according to a release. The class is scheduled for 6 to 10 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday.
The course, which costs $58 per person, will cover creating, modifying, enhancing, and customizing individual presentations.

Library offers workshop on gov contracts
Procuring government contracts will be the subject of a lunch workshop from noon to 1 p.m. on Sept. 25 at the Natrona County Public Library, according to a release.
Shannon Howshar of Gro-Biz will share information on requirements businesses must meet and resources available to assist in locating contracting opportunities.

Museum schedules adult docent classes
Those interested in learning more about contemporary art are invited to participated in an Adult Docent Program at the Nicolaysen Art Museum and Discovery Center, according to a release from the museum.
The group will meet from 4 to 5 p.m. each Thursday, Sept. 23-Oct. 21. The program is free.

College hosts wildlife crime expert
Pepper Trail, ornithologist at the U.S. National Fish and Wildlife Forensics Laboratory in Ashland, Ore., will speak on "Wild CSI: Fighting Wildlife Crime with Science" at 7 p.m. Monday in the Wold Physical Science Center, Wheeler Auditorium, Room 103. The event is free and open to the public.
Trail performs species identification of bird remains that are submitted in connection with investigations of possible wildlife crime, according to a release from the college, He has completed over 1,000 cases, involving over 40,000 species identifications of bird parts. These remains vary from individual feathers and bones to elaborately crafted items to oiled bird carcasses.
"Pepper is a good friend, a brilliant scientist, and an excellent writer on nature, conservation and environmental philosophy who is in great demand as a speaker," said Will Robinson, biology instructor.
Trail's presentation is part of the Zimmerman Lecture Series.
Parks board meets
The Natrona County Parks Boards will meet at 10 a.m. on Sept. 22 in the meeting room of the Road and Bridge office, 538 SW Wyoming Blvd., according to a release.

Rotary Park closes for improvements
Rotary Park in Mills will be closed to the public starting at 10 p.m. on Thursday through Saturday, according to a release. The park will open at 8 a.m. on Sept. 21.
The park will be closed to allow Rotary Club volunteers work on a trail improvement project. The project will start at the walking bridge over the creek and extend south along the west side of the creek. Additional improvements will take place during the spring of 2009.
Neighborhood hosts cleanup day
The semiannual North Casper Community Trash Day is scheduled for 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sept. 27, according to a release.
City trash bins and trailers for hazardous waste will be located in the parking lot at the Winter Memorial Presbyterian Church, 900 St. John.
Furniture, most appliances, tires, oil, paint and bagged yard waste will be accepted. Bags will be available, as well.
