Hays memorial service will be Thursday
A memorial service for Capt. Bruce Hays, 42, will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Highland Park Community Church, 411 S. Walsh Drive.
Hays, a member of the Wyoming Army National Guard, died Sept. 17 of wounds suffered when his vehicle encountered an improvised explosive device in Gerdia Seria, Afghanistan. His funeral is Monday in New Mexico.
Wyoming Army National Guard chaplain Capt. Todd Wolf will officiate. Members of the Wyoming Army National Guard will provide military honors after the service in front of the church.
The family asks that any donations be sent in Hays' name to the Bruce Hays College Memorial Fund, Wells Fargo account number 927-058-6119.
Legislators host property tax forum
Natrona County's legislators are sponsoring a property tax forum from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday in the City Council Chambers.
Representatives from the Wyoming Department of Revenue, Wyoming Tax Payers Association, State Board of Equalization, County Assessors Association and Hilltop National Bank will speak in 30- to 60-minute segments from 4 to 7 p.m. A question-and-answer session will follow at 7 p.m.
The forum will be broadcast on a public cable access channel and a call-in phone number will be shown on the broadcast.
Casper College Foundation receives $500k gift
The Casper College Foundation received a gift of $500,000 from the estate of the late Hardy V. and Ione E. Ratcliff, according to a release.
Paul Hallock, executive director of the Casper College Foundation, said the funds will be added to the Hardy V. and Ione E. Ratcliff Scholarship Fund.
The $500,000 will be matched by the "Wyoming Community College Endowment Challenge Program," established by the Wyoming State Legislature, for a total of $1 million.
Wanted: Comments on new elementary school
The Natrona County School District will host a "World Cafe" from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday in the Crawford room at the Natrona County Public Library.
The event aims to elicit more input on the design and programming for a new elementary school, according to a release from the school district. It is open to the public.
Participants will discuss specific questions in small groups, and write down their ideas. The questions will focus on topics including optimal learning environments for students, the skills students need in their future, leadership structures for the school, public use of the school building, and grouping of students.
Tickets for Backyardigans are available Friday
Tickets for Nickelodeon's "Backyardigans Live! Tale of the Mighty Knights" will go on sale at 10 a.m. on Friday at the Casper Events Center box office, according to a release. The show is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Nov. 23.
The show is based on the Nickelodeon special which premiered on Jan. 14 and follows the characters as they embark on a quest to proect a king's unpredictable egg. The show includes audience participation, singing and dancing.
Tickets are priced at $21, $29 and $39, plus applicable fees.

NCHS announces upcoming events
The student council at Natrona County High School is hosting several activities in conjunction with the school's homecoming week, scheduled for Oct. 5-11, according to a release from the school district.
The homecoming coronation is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Oct. 9 in the John F. Welsh Auditorium. The homecoming parade and burning of the "NC" will follow.
The homecoming game - the Mustangs host Riverton - is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Oct. 10. The homecoming dance follows in the gymnasium from 9 p.m. to midnight.
