Questions will center on new eastside elementary
Starting Monday, families and community members might be hearing from the Natrona County School District.
The school district has contracted with a company in Greybull to conduct a telephone survey, asking for community input on the new eastside elementary expected to be built.
The survey should only take 10 to 12 minutes, according to Kelly Eastes, the school district's community partnerships manager. Calls will be made through Sept. 17.
Participants should be prepared to answer questions about programming, teaching styles and community use of buildings. The survey is an attempt to have the community think deeply about the new school, instead of saying they just want a program similar to one already in place, Eastes said.
"It has them think more about what's going on [at schools], instead of saying we just want another whatever," he said. "And the idea is really to do what's best for the kids in our community."
Mark Antrim, the school district's associate superintendent for facilities and technology, said the district is in the final stages of acquiring land for the new school.
The Natrona County school board in July approved $1.8 million to buy the property, which is located in the Centennial Hills Addition.
District staff members continue to work with the city of Casper, the developer and the Wyoming School Facilities Commission on the acquisition, Antrim said.
"We have the funding to both design and build the new school," he said.
