A change of plea hearing has been scheduled for a Casper man suspected of firing a .40-caliber pistol at a car during an April chase.
Christopher Turner, 29, is due for the hearing in Natrona County District Court on Sept. 24. At such appearances, defendants often enter into plea agreements with prosecutors.
Turner is charged with four counts of aggravated assault and a single count of possession of a deadly weapon, with unlawful intent. He pleaded not guilty to all charges at his arraignment last month.
Police arrested him April 17 after witnesses told officers he fired two or three shots at a car driven by a man who'd recently come to Natrona County from Chicago.
No one was injured during the early-morning chase through Casper, which may have reached speeds of up to 90 mph.
The alleged victim told police he was at his boss' trailer in Mills when a girl invited him to a party. They agreed to meet at a convenience store in Mills.
After he arrived, a yellow pickup drove up and another woman got out of the truck and into his car. He told officers he drove away with the woman inside when he saw Turner coming toward him, according to a police affidavit.
The alleged victim told police he twice tried to drop the woman off but claimed she refused.
Later that morning, police stopped a pickup that matched the description of the yellow truck. Turner and two other men were inside, along with a jammed pistol, police said.
During a subsequent interview with police, Turner denied shooting at anyone, according to police.
Turner remains free on $10,000 bond.
