Peace Officers hold fundraiser
The Natrona County Peace Officers are hosting a fundraising concert featuring Johnny Cash tribute band Michael J and the Mighty Cash Cats tonight at 7 at the Kelly Walsh High School auditorium.
The show is open to all ages and includes several Cash songs, including his duets with June Carter Cash.
Casper native wins music award
The Clintons, based in Montana and fronted by Casper native John McLellan, were named the 2008 New Musician Award winners by Gibson Acoustic Guitar, according to a release.
The Clintons were selected from approximately 170 entries.
College offers advanced Word
Casper College will offer an advanced class for those who have completed Word II or who have extensive experience using Word software, according to a release. The class will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. on Oct. 23 and 24.
Topics will include integrating Microsoft Word with other applications, advanced graphics, building forms, charts and diagrams, and customizing Word with macros.

Library hosts kids' investing workshop
Children are invited to learn about spending, saving, and sharing during a "Smart Investing at your library" program in October, according to a release.
A workshop for elementary-age children is scheduled for 4 p.m. on Wednesday in the library's Crawford Room. A second program for students in grades 4-6 will be held at 1 p.m. on Oct. 11.
At both events, each child will receive a "Moonjar Moneybox" to practice what they've learned at home.

Library employees win awards
Several librarians at the Natrona County Public Library received awards for their service to Natrona County during the Wyoming Library Association conference on Thursday in Casper, according to a release.
The youth services staff members received the Milstead award, given for excellent work benefiting youth in Natrona County, and library director Bill Nelson received the Distinguished Service Award.
Course offers competitive swimming for kids
A class is designed to give kids ages 8-13 the opportunity to progress from the novice swimmer to a taste of competition will begin Monday at the Casper Aquatic Center, according to a release.
The class will focus on stroke improvement and efficiency. Swimmers will learn free style, breaststroke, back crawl, the butterfly, and competition flip turns.
Participants need to be able to swim 25 yards on their stomach and back without flotation devise or assistance.
The class will be held from 5:50 to 6:30 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays through Oct. 30.

District names Boyes Teacher of the Year
On Wednesday, Melanie Boyes, ninth-grade language arts teacher at CY Junior High, was awarded the 2009 Natrona County School District Teacher of the Year Award by Superintendent Joel Dvorak, according to a release.
"Melanie is truly a champion for her students, peers, CY Junior High and our district," Dvorak said.
Boyles has taught literature and writing composition to eighth- and ninth-grade students at CY since 1991.
Dr. Dean Braughton, CY principal, is proud to have Boyes at his school.
"Melanie provides a classroom atmosphere like no other, with incredible feelings of care, safety and encouragement to attempt the untried without fear," said Dean Braughton, CY principal.
Board schedules retreat to discuss enrollment
The Natrona County School District's board will meet at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday at the Best Western Ramkota, 800 N. Poplar St., according to a release.
The discussion will revolve around trustees' interest in enrollment.
The public is welcome to attend.
