Frontier choir takes the show
The Frontier Middle School show choir traveled to Denver recently to compete against students in six Western states.
The show choir won first place in the Middle School Show Choir category for the second year in a row. The group also received the award for Best Middle School/Junior High Choir.
Livestock team finishes strong
The Casper College Freshman Livestock Judging Team ended its judging season on a high note with impressive wins, including both first and second place overall at the Grand National Stock Show in San Francisco.
In addition to the overall wins, the team took home the top two team spots in reasons; won first and second in cattle and first in sheep judging.
Kaylee Kerbs (Saratoga), Samantha Ufford (Vernal, Utah), Erin Marvin (Keensburg, Colo.), Megan Brumfield (Shepherd, Mont.), Black Kawcak (Craig, Colo.), and Josh Johnson (McDonald, Kan.) won individual awards.
Kennel club hosts show
More than 600 dogs representing more than 90 breeds will be in Casper on Friday and Saturday for the annual Central Wyoming Kennel Club Dog Show and Obedience Trial.
Competition begins at 9 a.m. on Friday and 8 a.m. on Saturday at the Central Wyoming Fairgrounds. Best in Show is selected by mid-afternoon.
The show is open to the public, however, according to American Kennel Club regulations, only dogs that are being shown are admitted into the show area.
CC offers dispatcher class
A two-week class to train individuals to become emergency dispatchers will begin on June 2 at Casper College.
The Casper College Center for Training and Development (CTD) was contacted by the Casper Police Department, which is currently experiencing a shortage of qualified applicants for its Public Safety Communications Center.
The two-week, half-day classes will cover a variety of topics and include basic law, civil liability and ethics, leadership, conflict resolution, 10-code/abbreviations, gathering information in emergencies, map reading, incident command, interpersonal communications, and radio, telephone and computer procedures. Students will also tour emergency operation locations. The two-week course will end with testing and a certificate ceremony.
The class is limited to 20 students and the cost is $260 per person, which includes all training, materials, ride-alongs, direct observation opportunities and classes.

NIC seeks volunteers for festival
The Nicolaysen Art Museum & Discovery Center is seeking volunteers to help with all aspects of NIC Fest, the museum's summer community festival scheduled for June 19-21.
Volunteers will be needed to help with setup, logistics, artist check-in, information booths, children's activities and much more.

Senior receives UW/CC award
Annette Green, a senior in the elementary education bachelor's degree program at the University of Wyoming/Casper College (UW/CC) Center, received the Sue Jorgensen Excellent Student in Education award at a recent ceremony. She became the 12th recipient of the prestigious award, recognized as one of the center's highest honors bestowed upon prospective teachers.
To receive this honor, a candidate must earn a minimum 3.5 grade point average while enrolled in the elementary education degree program through the UW/CC Center, exhibit professional disposition toward mentors and peers, contribute to the education field through leadership and community service, and display a positive attitude to promote excitement and curiosity about learning. Based on these criteria, candidates are nominated and selected by the elementary education faculty and staff.
Green was honored with a plaque that will hang in the center's main office, featuring the names of all recipients of the award.
NC hosts sports banquet
The Natrona County High School Sports Awards Banquet will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday in the school's gymnasium. The banquet is for all athletes who participated in sports during the 2007-08 school year. The Mustang and Filly graduating seniors, outstanding athletes for each sport, all-state recipients and state championship teams will be honored.
A free dinner reception will be provided by NC's Booster Club.
