A fire caused by portable heaters being used to thaw frozen pipes destroyed an Evansville mobile home Monday night, officials said.

No one was seriously injured in the blaze, although one of the mobile home's residents was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation, said Commander Egbert VonSeggern of the Casper Fire Department.

The fire at the Aspen mobile home park on Lathrop Road displaced five residents - two adults and three children, VonSeggern said.

The blaze was started by two mobile heaters placed too close in proximity to flammable materials, according to Dave Baker of the Natrona County Fire District. The heaters were being used to thaw pipes frozen by Mondays sub-zero temperatures, he added.

The fire was called in at 6:09 p.m. and was put out in approximately 15 minutes by crews from the Casper and Evansville fire departments as well as the Natrona County Fire District, VonSeggern said.

When crews arrived at the scene, flames were already coming out the window's of the mobile home and very few of the home's contents appeared to be salvageable, VonSeggern added.

At around 7:30 p.m. the exterior of the building was intact; the inside, however, looked to be nearly completely charred by the blaze.

No other buildings were damaged in the fire, VonSeggern said.
