Hospice plans affordable Saturday event
Admission is $2 per person. Raffle tickets are $3. Carnival game tickets are a quarter.
Is the Family Fun Fest on Saturday, sponsored by Central Wyoming Hospice & Transitions, a fundraiser?
"It's more of a fun-raiser," said Paula Mongold of the Hospice staff. "We really do this to promote family togetherness. We know how important spending time with family is."
Mongold admits that the event, billed as "Casper's largest indoor picnic," is not the biggest moneymaker of the year for the group, but because it is a completely sponsored event, any money raised -- the $2, $3 and quarters -- is all profit.
Although Hospice has been conducting a capital campaign for its expansion, Mongold said all proceeds from Saturday's event go to the general operating fund.
Now in its fifth year, Mongold said between 600 and 700 people attended a year ago. Scheduled a bit later in the season this year, she's not sure if the crowd will be quite as large, but is hoping for 500 at the Central Wyoming Fairgrounds Industrial Building.
From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., families can participate in dozens of games and activities. Among the new ones is frosting and decorating sugar cookies to take home.
"There are lots of games for the little kids, and you can win prizes for just about every game," Mongold said.
Last year's old-fashioned cake walk had about 90 cakes, and she expects the same.
"We have volunteer cake bakers who just start baking and bringing cakes," she said.
Affordable family food will be available for purchase, such as Sloppy Joes, club sandwiches and barbecued pork chops.
Raffle tickets are $3 each or two for $5 for a chance at more than 20 quilts and a dozen themed gift baskets.
All of the quilts are handmade and donated throughout the year by area quilters.
The empty baskets are taken to businesses, which plan a theme and fill the basket. Basket Creations then wraps all of the baskets in an attractive fashion.
Raffle ticket holders may choose quilt or gift basket, but will not select a specific one from that choice.
