County, military to conduct casualty exercise
Natrona County emergency responders, in cooperation with the Wyoming Military Department, will conduct an exercise on Saturday about their ability to respond to a mass casualty event, according to the county's emergency management office.
The exercise, from about 7 a.m. to about 3 p.m., will be triggered by a simulated aircraft accident about 40 miles north of Casper.
County officials will evaluate responders' capabilities to rapidly triage and transport a large number of casualties to the Wyoming Medical Center and Mountain View Regional Hospital. Transportation will be done by air and ground ambulances, military Black Hawk helicopters, and a C-130 transport plane.
Officials also will evaluate the use of alternate aircraft landing areas including the vacant lot on the northwest corner of 12th and Conwell streets, and behind Mountain View Regional Hospital.
The public will see increased emergency vehicles, and aircraft at the alternate sites and the Casper/Natrona County Regional Airport.
