Hey, Answer Girl -
Where does the money come from and who loads it into the ATMs that are not attached to a bank?
- Curious Casper Reader
To find this answer, I called the ATM experts - literally.
The company, ATM Experts, specializes in selling automated teller machines. The expert who answered my call said most individually owned ATMs - like the ones found in gas stations that don't have a bank name attached - are filled either by an armored car service or by the owner.
Armored car services offer safe delivery and pickup of money, and virtually every major business uses one of these services to transport money from the business to the bank. Same with ATMs. The armored car brings the money and people who work for the service put the money in the machine, usually on a regular basis.
The cars are well-locked, and the money is never left alone. It's probably safer than filling a suitcase with $20 bills.
Still, the expert said, some people fill the ATMs themselves to save money. (After all, armored car services aren't cheap.)
"You can just do it yourself," she said, "because you only need about $2,000 a day."
Only $2,000 a day? I wish I had access to that kind of cash.
Hey, Answer Girl -
Will the Casper city dump take old, non-working computer equipment from people outside of Casper? Here in Lusk, we don't have anything like that.
- Cory in Lusk
The good news is, you can bring your old computer equipment from Lusk to the Casper dump, and they'll take it off your hands.
The bad news is, it'll cost you.
For Natrona County residents, dumping computer equipment is free. To cover the cost of dumping old equipment, everyone in Natrona County pays an extra 12 cents each month.
Because you're not a county resident, dumping a computer would cost 40 cents per pound. Depending on how big the equipment is, that price could really add up quickly.
And don't try to sneak it in - dump personnel will check your drivers license before allowing you to leave the old equipment.
