Workshop looks at children's enviro health

A workshop that will examine how potential environmental health threats can affect children and how to help prevent them is planned for Sept. 29-30 at the Hilton Garden Inn, according to a release.

"For a number of reasons, children may be more vulnerable to environmental health threats than adults," said Timothy Ryan, environmental health section chief with the Wyoming Department of Health, in the release.

Ryan said workshop goals include increasing the ability of professionals to identify, prevent and reduce environmental health threats to children; information sharing; and encouraging coordination between various groups involved with education, health care and government.

State and local agency representatives, health and environment professionals, educators, day care providers, parents and others with an interest in children's environmental health are encouraged to attend.

The event is sponsored by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the Rocky Mountain Region Pediatric Environmental Health Specialty Unit, the Wyoming Department of Health and the Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality.

College offers tile installation class

A course on tile installation is being offered at Casper College for the fall semester, according to a release from the college.

The course will meet on Fridays from Sept. 12 to Oct. 12.

The cost for the month-long class is $60 per person, and seating is limited. A materials list will be provided at the first class.

Library offers smart investing class

The Natrona County Public Library will offer a "Smart Investing" class designed for seniors, retirees, and those nearing retirement, according to a release.

"Smart Investing for Seniors: Dispelling the Myths" will be held at 5 p.m. on Thursday in the library's Crawford room, with dinner provided. The class, which is free, is part of the library's "Smart Investing @ your library" series in September and October.

Nic workshop focuses on bronze clay

Linda Lyman, the Nicolaysen Art Museum & Discovery Center's Curator of Education, will present a special Bronze Clay workshop from 1 to 4 p.m. on Oct 4, according to a release.

Bronze Clay is a combination of water, a binder and bronze - which is a combination of copper and tin. When fired, the binder burns away leaving a solid, pure bronze object. This process can be used to make jewelry or tools.

The workshop costs $43.20 for members and $48 for nonmembers. All supplies are included, and the class is limited to 15 participants.

KW plans for homecoming

The Kelly Walsh High School student council is hosting three activities that will take place during the school's homecoming week, according to a release from the school district. All activities are open to the public.

Powder puff football is scheduled for 7 p.m., on Monday at Harry Geldien Stadium. Admission is $2 for students, $3 for adults.

The homecoming royalty will be crowned at 7 p.m. on Tuesday at the Kelly Walsh Auditorium. Admission is free. The homecoming parade will follow.

The homecoming football game is at 7 p.m. on Friday. The Trojans play Laramie at Harry Geldien Stadium.

Buckcherry, Avenged Sevenfold play Nov. 4

Buckcherry, Avenged Sevenfold, and Saving Abel will play at 7 p.m. on Nov. 4 at the Casper Events Center, according to a release. Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. on Saturday.

Buckcherry's 2006 album 15 was platinum and was Grammy nominated. Its current album is Black Butterfly. Avenged Sevenfold recently produced its own, self-titled album. In 2005, it sold more than 1 million copies of City Of Evil with Murdock.

Seating is general admission on the floor and reserved in the stands. Ticket prices are $35.00 and $39.50 plus applicable fees.
