Gun stolen from vehicle

Casper police responded to more than 20 auto burglaries in the last week, including one where a .45 caliber handgun was stolen from an unlocked sport utility vehicle, according to reports.

Sgt. Larry Baker of the Casper Police Department reiterated Monday the department's advice that residents lock their cars and try to avoid leaving valuable items in the open. If would-be thieves have to overcome locked doors, Baker said, they likely move on to easier targets, particularly if valuables have not been left in the open.

Police are asking for information about recent burglaries, many of which occurred in the Valley Hills area and in eastern and central parts of the city.

Anyone with information about any of the burglaries or other crimes can call CrimeStoppers at 577-8477. Callers will remain anonymous and could receive a reward.

The handgun was stolen from a Ford Expedition parked in the 3300 block of Ridgecrest Drive on Saturday night, according to reports.

In a separate incident, a portable DVD player and a digital music player were reported stolen over the weekend from a car parked at the Albertsons Supermarket on CY Avenue.
