Gretchen Wilson concert canceled

The Gretchen Wilson concert scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 22 in Casper has been cancelled, according to a release.

The Rocky Mountain Region was cut out of the tour, and only a few of the originally scheduled tour dates will go on-stage due to economic issues.

Man gets prison time for meth charges

A judge sentenced a Casper man Thursday to five to nine years in prison in connection with an April traffic stop where officers found methamphetamine and a scale inside a car he was traveling in.

James Witt, 34, had earlier pleaded guilty to methamphetamine possession and attempt or conspiracy to deliver methamphetamine.

Witt was a passenger in a car stopped by police on April 7 for making an illegal turn. Inside, an officer found a digital scale, plastic bags, methamphetamine, syringes and glass pipes, according to police

Two other people were also booked on drug charges.

Conspiracy case moves forward

A judge Thursday ruled the criminal case should move forward against a woman charged with conspiracy to commit forgery.

Officers arrested Angela Louis Armacost, 29, last month and said they suspected she was associated with a possible identity theft ring.

Police say she helped hide another woman sought by law enforcement and assisted the woman in getting photocopies of drivers licenses.

The case against Armacost grew out of the Sept. 15 arrest of a man accused of trying to cash a forged Wyoming State Auditor's check.

However, Armacost's attorney said there isn't evidence she agreed to make forged checks.

2008 fall leaf collection

On one day during the fall season, Casper trash crews will perform special curbside collection for leaves, according to Peter Meyers, administrative analyst for the city.

The extra leaves will be taken for compost. Leaves must be placed in garbage bags, tied and placed at least three feet away from the garbage can.

"It's a terrible waste of landfill space to just bury leaves in the landfill," said Robert Orpet, the city's waste collection supervisor. "Let's turn them into compost instead."

Although every household in the city already gets two extra trash pickup days each month, for the first two weeks in November the city will provide the leaf pickup service as well. Pumpkins can also be placed in separate bags for composting during this time.

Residents can look up their specific extra leaf collection day on the city's Web site, www.casperwy.gov.
