Colorado resident faces 20 years behind bars
A Colorado man admitted in court Tuesday to delivering roughly a half pound of cocaine to a north Casper motel room about two months ago.
Edmundo Orozco told Natrona County District Judge Thomas Sullins he knew the substance he delivered to the Ranch House Motel in early September was cocaine. He also admitted to knowing the approximate amount that he sold -- about 246 grams.
In exchange for pleading guilty to delivery of a controlled substance, prosecutors have agreed to dismiss two other felony drug charges brought against the 30-year-old.
Orozco, who was represented by attorney Rob Oldham, faces up to 20 years in prison.
Sullins accepted the plea during a 25-minute hearing Tuesday morning.
Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation agents arrested Edmundo and his cousin, Alejandro Orozco, in September at the Ranch Hotel Motel after learning about an alleged drug deal, according to DCI.
After obtaining a warrant, agents found $7,500 on Alejandro Orozco and a small amount of cocaine in a room at the hotel, according to court documents. The cousins are suspected of bringing the drugs to Casper from Colorado, where they live.
Both men spoke with investigators following their arrests. Alejandro Orozco said his cousin offered him $100 to $200 to travel to Casper with him. He suspected his cousin picked up the cocaine at a home in Commerce City, Colo., where Edmundo resides.
The cousins arrived in Casper at approximately 10 p.m. on Sept. 4 and rented a room at the motel. Edmundo Orozco left after a short time and allegedly had $7,500 with him when he returned, according to the affidavit's description of Alejandro Orozco's interview.
Both men were arrested later that night by DCI agents accompanied by officers from the Casper police and the Natrona County sheriff's departments.
Alejandro Orozco, 24, has an arraignment scheduled for Friday. The Thornton, Colo., resident has been charged with cocaine delivery and conspiracy charges.
