Cruise the strip in a classic car. Get your groove on at the Parkway Plaza. Celebrate endings and new beginnings with the Class of 2008. And of course, honor those who have given their lives in service to this country.
Whatever your holiday plans include, be sure to check out the exciting events Casper has to offer. There are plenty of fun-filled activities for the whole family and here are the details on just a few of them.
Casper College Green House will hold an open house from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. today. There will be tomatoes, peppers and herbs, some of which will be available to purchase. The open house is free and open to the public, and refreshments will be served.
Casper Humane Society will hold a pet photo shoot from noon to 2 p.m. DeMaine Image Pet Photography will be taking pictures, and a $10 sitting fee will be charged. Pet owners can choose from either an 8-by-10 for an additional $15, a 5-by-7 for $9, a 4-by-6 for $7.50, or a page of nine wallet-sized photos for $20.
Roosevelt High School commencement ceremonies will take place at 3 p.m. at the Casper Events Center.
Natrona County High School commencement ceremonies follow at 7 p.m., also at the Casper Events Center.
Morrison Art Studio will hold an opening reception from 6 to 9 p.m. tonight. There will be an art sale, silent auction and a raffle to benefit the Wyoming Conservation Voters Education Fund.
The Oil Capital Auto Club will hold the annual Cruizin' with the Oldies event today and Sunday. Come to the Parkway Plaza for a jaunt in a classic car during the Short Cruise from 9 a.m. to noon. From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. there will be a cruise-in at the Mossholder's Design Center. The public is invited to browse and take pictures. At 7 p.m. there will be a parade beginning at the intersection of Durbin and Second streets. Then come bust a move at the Parkway Plaza for the 50s style sock hop at 7:30 p.m. This year's show is called "Buddy and Beyond," in tribute to Buddy Holly. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children under 12. All proceeds will go to the Casper Humane Society. For complete schedule, visit www.ocac.cc.
Memorial Day will be observed again this year at the Oregon Trail State Veterans Cemetery, unless inclement weather develops. If that happens, events will take place at VFW Memorial Post No. 9439, 1800 Bryan Stock Trail. The ceremony starts at 11 a.m.
The public, along with veterans and their families, are welcome to attend the ceremony that honors deceased veterans.
A service will also be held at the War Memorial for all Wyoming War Dead, located on the Platte River Pathway across from the Three Crowns Golf Course, at 4 p.m.
The monument contains all the names of Wyoming War Dead , from the Indian Wars of 1865, the Spanish-American War, World War One, World War Two, Korea, Vietnam to Iraq and Afghanistan in 2008.
Located on West Yellowstone Highway, across from Black Hills Bentonite, the Wall faces Casper Mountain and is 1,400 feet long. The ceremony will begin in the parking lot at the White Water Rafting park.
