A Casper man is one of three workers recovering from burns sustained in a flash fire at a natural gas exploration well in eastern Washington on Friday, a representative of Delta Petroleum in Denver said Tuesday.

However, Andrea Brown said she could not release the man's name because of privacy issues.

The injuries suffered by the Casper man and the two others are not life threatening, said Brown, who is the investor relations manager for Delta Petroleum.

They were taken to the Harborview Medical Center in Seattle after gas was accidentally released up the well as workers were removing the drilling equipment, according to the Yakima Herald. A spark ignited the gas and the resulting fire burned the workers, tarps and lubricants on the rig floor, the Herald reported.

A fourth man was injured with a broken leg at the exploration well near Bickleton.

Delta owns the well - Washington's only active natural gas exploration well - and owns half of the Casper-based DHS Drilling, which is doing the work.

DHS has between 450 and 500 employees in Wyoming, Colorado and Washington, Brown said.

The company may resume drilling because it apparently has not violated its permit, the Herald reported.

The Washington Department of Labor and Industries continues to investigate the accident.
