Chastened -- "Gertie Repented.
"Gertrude Hopkins, the woman who used such vile language one day last week while she was making her departure from this city, and who was brought back from Douglas by the officers, had her trial before Judge Tubbs last Wednesday afternoon, and imposed a sentence of three months in jail and a fine of $100 upon her, but the sentence was suspended if she would leave town and never return. Just after the trial the woman swallowed a dose of laudanum with suicidal intent, but an emitic brought her out of it, and she left town Sunday. Upon her departure she seemed to feel different toward the officers and she thanked Judge Tubbs for the consideration he had shown her and she humbly apologised to Marshal Jones for all the trouble she had caused him, and said she felt truly sorry for using the bad language before such a large number of people."
