Casper College District Board trustees reauthorized two mill levies for the upcoming school year during their regular meeting Tuesday night.

The first was a one-mill "optional mill levy" the college has authorized since 1991. The mill should bring in a projected $1.4 million to the college.

The second was a half-mill levy for the Central Wyoming Board of Cooperative Education Services, or the B.O.C.E.S program. Neither levy will increase taxes for residents.

Robyn Landen, the college's director of financial services/controller, said the optional mill levy helps the college fund its normal operations.

"The majority of the funding has been for equipment, or buildings and grounds repairs, or renovations," she said.

This year, part of the funding from the mill will also be used to help pay for personnel and operations in several other college departments.

Landen said the college's grant office, institutional research and assessment department and distance education department are just a few programs that will receive money from the optional mill levy.

The half-mill levy for B.O.C.E.S helps support joint programs between the college and the Natrona County School District. Both the levies may be reauthorized every two years through a public hearing and a college board vote.

All seven community colleges in Wyoming must receive four mills worth of community tax dollars to be eligible for state funding. Colleges can also seek more tax revenue through the optional mill levy.
