Two parks in Casper will step up efforts to do something about dog doo doo, thanks to help from a local elementary school class.

A group of fifth-grade students from Crest Hill gave a presentation to the Casper City Council on Tuesday night asking for plastic bag dispensers to be installed in Wolf Creek and Mike Sedar parks to encourage dog walkers to pick up after their pets.

"Several parks in Casper are covered in dog feces," said Kayla Albertson, 10.

Kayla said she and her classmates play in these parks and she is worried that someone could fall or step into the feces. Dog droppings can also contain dangerous germs, she said.

"Thank you for pointing out a problem," Councilman Guy Padgett told the group. "I think it's got a lot of merit."

Councilman Page Fagan said he was so impressed with the group's presentation that he made a motion to approve the purchase of the dispensers, which was seconded and passed unanimously.

"We welcome you to come back if you see other things," said Mayor Kate Sarosy.

The council broke with tradition and let the group speak at the beginning of the meeting, instead of at the end. The council postponed a vote on the third reading of the 9 Iron subdivision and approved all other ordinances and resolutions on the agenda.
