At least a few Casper pet-owners are crazy for their Corgis.
That's why dog-lover Jan Yarbrough decided to throw a party in celebration of the playful, big-eared breed.
During the event at Riverview Park in north Casper Saturday afternoon, about 20 dogs and their people gathered to play puppy-friendly games and chat about their furry friends.
With big pointy ears, long bodies, short legs and two front feet pointed sophisticatedly outward, the unusual but adorable breed isn't hard to identify. Ranging in size and color - some were more brown, some tan, some with black streaks and others with white - the Corgis ran around with decorative scarves and collars and stuffed toys.
"I haven't seen many Corgis around town, and I'm amazed to see this many here," said Cheryl Lockard, whose Corgi Capone (named after the famous Chicago mobster) looked overwhelmed and excited to be near so many dogs and people. "I think it's a good idea to see the other dogs. I like comparing their actions to my dog and seeing if it's all typical of the breed."
Capone, for example, likes catching bugs, rolling around on the floor and running wild.
"Their personalities are so incredible," Lockard said. "They're like clowns. They're silly. They do silly things. I just think he's so great. When I have sad moments, he makes me happy."
Participating in such events as the egg-pass-with-the-dog-on-a-leash and a dog dip for hot dogs, in which Corgis competed for the fastest hotdog eating time, owners and pets alike got to know one another while enjoying a lovely summer day.
This was the first Corgi get-together, but event creator Jan Yarbrough said she hopes many more will follow.
"The dogs just love it," she said. "It's just fun and I thought I'd do this and see what happened."
Yarbrough has attended a larger Corgi event in Billings, hosted by an all-Corgi club. She said she may be interested in forming such a club in Casper, assuming enough people would want to join.
"I wanted to see how many Corgis there were and if there was any interest, and we've had a great turnout. I'm really tickled," she said. "I'd love for us to at least get together every once in a while."
