Must endure bureaucracy, give advice on strip clubs, help oversee land disputes and zoning questions, and guide five county commissioners.
Natrona County is looking for a new county attorney now that Eric Nelson has given his resignation notice effective at the end of December, he said Tuesday.
"It wasn't an issue of being dissatisfied," Nelson said. "I was approached."
Representatives of the Casper firm of Brown, Drew & Massey have been talking to him about joining the firm to handle general practice law and oil and gas litigation, he said.
Nelson became the Natrona County attorney in March 2007 after working as a Wyoming assistant attorney general for the Oil and Gas Conservation Commission.
He replaced former county attorney Bill Harden.
Unlike other Wyoming counties, the Natrona County attorney does not prosecute crimes. That job belongs to the Seventh District Attorney's office, which has its offices in the Natrona County Courthouse but receives funding from the state.
Closing date for applications is Nov. 14.
The job pays between $70,000 and $90,000 per year depending on qualifications.
The position is an annual appointment by the Natrona County Commission.
