Hey, Answer Girl -

When were Kelly Walsh High School's colors changed from green and white to green and gold, and why?

- Susan

According to Kelly Walsh Principal Brad Diller, the school's official colors are, indeed, still green and white, not green and gold.

The confusion comes from the use of the gold color in many of the school's sports team uniforms, he said. Although the colors were never changed, at some point, yellow piping was used on a uniform, someone liked it, and it stuck.

For "Ed"

A kind older man called to ask a question about a song, and told me a story about his dream car. I regrettably didn't write down his name, which he told me at the beginning of the conversation, but I believe he said he was "Ed from Bar Nunn."

The story was about his life as a young man in the military. An officer he knew had a lovely 1939 LaSalle, and he thought it was the most beautiful car he'd ever seen. When he returned home to the Midwest after World War II, he saw an advertisement in the paper for a LaSalle. Although he was quite interested in buying the car, he had contracted malaria while fighting in the war, and had an issue with the disease just at the time of seeing the ad.

He never was able to purchase the car, and never saw an ad for one again.

This man's voice was so kind, and his story so interesting and touching, that I did a bit of research to see what cars may be available now, so many decades later.

I found lots of LaSalles from about 1931 to 1940. Although only a few were specifically from 1939, they're out there somewhere (mostly in California and New Jersey, for whatever reason). I also came upon an advertisement for a 1938 LaSalle for sale in Wheatland. I called, and it's still available, for about $12,500. The price on the Wyoming car was far less than that listed for others, and was noted to be "negotiable."

I wish I had the money to purchase such a car for this man, but I don't. Perhaps he'll be able to afford his dream car one day soon - or perhaps he'll buy the one in Wheatland.
