'King Lear' replaces 'Twelfth Night' at CC

The first play for 2009 on the McMurry Mainstage at Casper College will be Shakespeare's "King Lear," replacing the originally announced "Twelfth Night," according to a release.

Director Tom Empey said he thinks the current theatre student population is more suited to "King Lear."

The famous tragedy will be set in the modern Middle East.

"King Lear" will be presented on the McMurry Mainstage of the Gertrude Krampert Theatre Complex on Feb. 27 and 28, and March 3 through 7, at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $12 for adults and $10 for students ages 5 to 18.

Tickets will go on sale to the general public on Feb. 23. Tickets may be purchased at the box office from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday, by calling 268-2500 or toll free 800-442-2963, ext. 2500, or at the box office one hour before each show.

Host families needed in 2009

Host families for exchange students are needed for the new year, according to a release.

Host families provide room, board and a caring environment for exchange the exchange students, who are available for the 2009 - 2010 school year. Students are between 15 and 18 years old and come with their own spending money and insurance.

Skate Across America goes to Nashville

The Casper Ice Arena's "Skate Across America" will stop in Nashville, Tenn., on Jan. 11 at 1 p.m., according to a release.

The arena will host the skating event one Sunday each month during the 2008-2009 season. The program started on the East Coast and will eventually end up in Casper. Each month will feature music, food and fun facts from a new city.

The event is held during the 1 to 3 p.m. public skating sessions on the chosen Sundays. Admission is $3 per person, and skate rental is $2. Children 4 and under are free with a paid adult.

Mystery book club begins

A new mystery book club at the Natrona County Public Library will begin Jan. 28 at 6:30 p.m., according to a release.

A copy of each month's book is available at the library's reference desk. Discussions will be held on the last Wednesday of each month, and participants can attend regularly or only once.
